Upon arrival at Addis Ababa airport, take a domestic flight to Mekelle in northern Ethiopia. Upon arrival, meet your guide and drive toward the Gheralta region, known for its dramatic sandstone mountains and ancient rock-hewn churches. Enjoy scenic landscapes along the way and begin your cultural introduction to Tigray’s heritage. In the afternoon, visit selected cliff-side churches depending on access and hiking conditions. End the day with sunset views over the Gheralta mountains before returning to Mekelle for overnight stay at the hotel.

Journey to Danakil Depression & Erta Ale Trek

Early morning departure from Mekelle towards the Afar region and the extraordinary Danakil Depression, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth. Travel through dramatic desert landscapes, salt plains, and remote Afar villages. Visit salt mining areas and observe traditional camel caravans along the route. Continue driving to the Erta Ale volcanic region. In the evening, begin a guided trek to the active volcano to witness the glowing lava crater. Overnight camping near Erta Ale under basic desert conditions.

Erta Ale Sunrise & Dallol Exploration

Early morning experience at the Erta Ale volcanic area with sunrise views over the active lava landscape. After the volcano visit, continue driving deeper into the Danakil Depression towards Dallol, one of the most surreal geothermal sites in the world. Explore colorful sulfur springs, acid pools, and salt formations shaped by volcanic activity. Visit Lake Assale, famous for its vast white salt flats and traditional salt mining activity. End the day with an overnight stay at a basic desert campsite in Hamad Ela under the stars.
