Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through Kenya’s central highlands with scenic views of coffee plantations, Mount Kenya landscapes, and rural villages along the way. After a brief stop near the equator for photos and refreshments, continue toward the semi-arid wilderness of Samburu. Arrive at your lodge or camp in time for lunch and some relaxation before setting out on an afternoon game drive in Samburu National Reserve. The reserve is famous for unique northern species such as the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx, often referred to as the “Samburu Special Five.” Return to camp at sunset for dinner and an overnight stay under the African stars.

Spend the day exploring the rugged beauty of Samburu with morning and afternoon game drives along the Ewaso Nyiro River, the lifeline of the reserve that attracts elephants, lions, leopards, crocodiles, and countless bird species. The dramatic landscapes of acacia woodland, doum palms, and open savannah create excellent wildlife viewing opportunities throughout the day. You may also visit a local Samburu village to learn about the traditions and culture of the Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and another overnight stay in Samburu.

Day 3

After breakfast, depart Samburu and journey south toward the cool highlands of the Aberdare region. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch before transferring to one of the famous tree lodges overlooking a floodlit waterhole. The Aberdares offer a completely different safari experience, with dense forests, misty mountains, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. Spend the evening quietly watching animals such as elephants, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, bushbucks, and sometimes elusive leopards or hyenas visiting the waterhole. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

After breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru and travel through the floor of the Great Rift Valley toward the world-famous Maasai Mara. Arrive at your camp or lodge in time for lunch and relaxation before heading out for an afternoon game drive across the rolling plains of the reserve. The Maasai Mara is home to an incredible concentration of wildlife including lions, elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, and vast herds of antelope. Depending on the season, you may also witness part of the Great Migration. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight.
