Day 1

Your adventure begins as you land at Kigali International Airport. After clearing immigration and customs, you will be met by your private English‑speaking safari guide and driver. From there, you will start with an engaging city tour of Kigali. After the city tour and lunch (own expense), you will begin the scenic 3‑hour drive northwest to the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. The road winds through Rwanda’s famous rolling hills, with views of vast tea plantations and traditional villages. You will check into your mid‑range lodge near Volcanoes National Park, where you will rest and prepare for the next day’s primate trek.

Day 2

You will rise early for breakfast before driving a short distance to the park headquarters at Kinigi. After a briefing from the park rangers, you will enter the bamboo forest of Volcanoes NP in search of the playful, vibrantly coloured golden monkeys.

After the trek, you will return to the lodge for a late breakfast or early lunch, then check out and begin your cross‑border transfer to Uganda.

Afternoon – Crossing into Uganda & Drive to Bweza, Bwindi NP

Your guide will drive you to the Cyanika border – the most convenient crossing for reaching the southern sectors of Bwindi NP. Border formalities are generally smooth (ensure your East Africa Tourist Visa or separate visas are pre‑arranged). Once in Uganda, the drive continues along the Kisoro–Rushaga road. You will arrive in the Bweza / Rushaga area of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the late afternoon and check into your mid‑range lodge for the next two nights.

Day 3

This is the day you have been waiting for. After an early breakfast, your guide will drive you to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will then enter the ancient “impenetrable” forest with expert Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers to search for one of the habituated mountain gorilla families.

Return to the lodge for a well‑earned lunch and some rest. You can enjoy the forest views from your private balcony or treat yourself to a spa treatment at the lodge (available at Bweza Gorilla Lodge)

In the late afternoon, you will visit a Batwa community near Bwindi. The Batwa were the original “keepers of the forest” who lived as hunter‑gatherers inside the jungle for centuries before the park was established.

Day 4

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and a late morning check‑out. You will then begin the 2‑hour scenic drive from Bweza to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s deepest lakes, often called the “Switzerland of Africa” for its terraced hills and mist‑covered islands

Upon arrival, you will board a private boat for a 1.5–2 hour cruise. This bird‑watcher’s paradise (the name “Bunyonyi” means “place of many little birds”) is home to over 200 bird species. Highlights of the boat tour include:

After the boat cruise, you will enjoy a late lunch (included) at a lakeside restaurant or your lodge. Then, you will begin the drive back to Rwanda, crossing the border and continuing to Kigali International Airport. The return drive takes approximately 4–5 hours.

You will arrive at the airport in the early evening. Your guide will assist you with your luggage, and you will check in for your international departure.
