Scenic Drive to Musanze & Cultural Experience

Your private tour guide will pick you up from your hotel or the airport in Kigali. You will ride in a 4x4 safari jeep. The drive takes about 2.5 hours. You will pass through green, rolling hills. People call this area the "Land of a Thousand Hills." You can stop to take photos of the beautiful views and local tea fields along the way.

Arrive in the town of Musanze, which sits near the tall volcanoes. You will check into your lodge, unpack your bags, and eat a fresh lunch made by local chefs.

Drive to this special village to meet former gorilla poachers who now protect the animals. You will watch a lively show of traditional Intore dancing and hear powerful drumming. You can try shooting a traditional bow and arrow, see how local beer is brewed, and visit a replica of an ancient king's house.

Head back to your lodge for dinner. Sleep early because you have a big hiking day tomorrow.

The Magical Gorilla Trek & Return to Kigali

The Magical Gorilla Trek & Return to Kigali

Eat a warm breakfast at the lodge. Your lodge will give you a packed lunch box and bottled water to carry in your backpack.
Your guide will drive you to the Kinigi Park Headquarters. The rangers will divide visitors into groups of eight people. Each group gets assigned to one specific wild gorilla family. You will drive to the edge of the forest to start your hike. You will walk through thick bamboo and muddy paths. Tracking rangers go ahead to trail the gorillas. The hike can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours depending on where the gorillas walked that morning. Once you find the gorilla family, the clock starts. You will stand just meters away from giant silverbacks, mothers, and playful babies. You can take photos and watch them eat, play, and rest in their natural home.
Walk back down the mountain to meet your driver. You will eat your packed lunch and receive a formal trekking certificate and set off.
