Depart Addis Ababa at 6:00 AM for Bishoftu (Debre Zeit), arriving at beautiful Lake Babogaya around 7:00 AM. Enjoy an exciting morning birdwatching session around the crater lake before breakfast at a lakeside restaurant. Possible sightings include African Fish Eagle, Malachite Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Great White Pelican, Yellow-billed Duck, Hottentot Teal, Black Crake, Sacred Ibis, Long-tailed Cormorant, Grey Heron, White-backed Duck, Little Grebe, Spur-winged Goose, Black-winged Stilt, and Ethiopian Boubou. Continue to Sodere Resort via Adama, arriving for lunch and relaxation. In the late afternoon explore the lush Awash River forest where birds may include White-cheeked Turaco, Abyssinian Woodpecker, Grey-headed Batis, African Paradise Flycatcher, Woodland Kingfisher, African Grey Hornbill, Bruce's Green Pigeon, Little Bee-eater, and Red-billed Firefinch.

Begin early birding around the hot spring forest before breakfast. The woodland offers excellent chances to see Nile Valley Sunbird, White-browed Sparrow-Weaver, Black-billed Barbet, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Beautiful Sunbird, Black Scimitarbill, Speckled Mousebird, and Eastern Grey Plantain-eater. Drive toward Awash National Park, stopping along the route to observe soaring raptors and savannah birds including Augur Buzzard, Tawny Eagle, Martial Eagle, Lanner Falcon, Pygmy Falcon, Secretary Bird, Abyssinian Roller, European Roller, Northern Carmine Bee-eater, and Little Bee-eater. After lunch in Metehara, continue birding around the spectacular Awash Falls and riverine forest. Other possible sightings include Bare-faced Go-away-bird, White-crested Turaco, Somali Fiscal, Red-and-yellow Barbet, Buff-crested Bustard, Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Black-headed Lapwing, and White-headed Buffalo Weaver.

Leave before sunrise for Alledeghi Wildlife Reserve, one of Ethiopia's finest destinations for dry-country birds and wildlife. Besides Beisa Oryx, Soemmerring's Gazelle, Salt's Dik-dik, and Warthog, birders may encounter Kori Bustard, Arabian Bustard, Somali Ostrich, Eastern Chanting Goshawk, Bateleur, Martial Eagle, Secretary Bird, Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Somali Courser, Temminck's Courser, Greater Kestrel, Crested Lark, Somali Fiscal, Mouse-colored Penduline Tit, and White-crowned Starling. Enjoy a picnic breakfast before returning to Addis Ababa via the Adama Expressway. Stop for lunch in Bishoftu and arrive in Addis Ababa around 5:00 PM, followed by hotel or airport transfer.
