Arusha – Lushoto – Irente Viewpoint

The safari begins early in Arusha with a scenic journey southeast toward the Usambara Mountains, passing through Moshi, Same, and Mombo, with beautiful views of the Pare Mountains and rural Tanzanian landscapes. Upon arrival in Lushoto, you'll enjoy lunch and check in to your lodge. In the afternoon, you'll take a guided walk to the famous Irente Viewpoint, overlooking the Maasai plains more than 1,000 meters below. In the evening, enjoy a guided nature walk in Mazumbai Forest, looking for chameleons, nocturnal insects, and other wildlife while experiencing the peaceful sounds of the rainforest after sunset.

Pick-Up & Arrival: You will arrange your own transfer from your hotel to the bus station in Arusha. If assistance is required, we can arrange the hotel-to-bus-station transfer at an additional cost.

Lushoto – Mazumbai Forest Reserve Full-Day Hike

After breakfast, you'll start hiking Mazumbai Forest Reserve, located on the western slopes of the Usambara Mountains. Begin a full-day guided trek through tea plantations, traditional Shambaa villages, and pristine rainforest trails.
As you enter the forest, the atmosphere changes dramatically: cool mist, giant trees covered with mosses and ferns, and the constant calls of forest birds. Keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys, chameleons, colorful butterflies, and endemic bird species found only in the Eastern Arc Mountains.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the surrounding valleys and tea estates. You'll continue exploring different forest habitats while your guide explains the ecology, medicinal plants, and conservation importance of the reserve.

Sunrise Nature Walk - Return to Arusha

You will wake up early for a peaceful sunrise birdwatching walk along the edge of Mazumbai Forest, where the cool mountain air and the sounds of the rainforest create a truly memorable experience. Early morning is the best time to observe a variety of forest birds and enjoy the natural beauty of the Usambara Mountains. After breakfast, you begin your journey back to Arusha, descending through the scenic mountain landscapes to Mombo. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before boarding the afternoon public bus to Arusha. You will travel through the beautiful northeastern Tanzanian countryside and arrive in Arusha in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your Mazumbai Rainforest adventure.
After the tour ends, you will make your own way from the designated arrival point to your hotel. If they prefer, we can arrange the transfer at an additional cost.
