Start before sunrise, drifting silently over the Mara in a hot air balloon — included in your tour rate, not an upsell — as the plains wake up beneath you and the first light catches herds of zebra and wildebeest below. Back on the ground, spend the afternoon walking the Mara River on foot alongside an armed ranger, tracking hippo pods and crocodile basking sites from a perspective a vehicle can never give you. Round out the day with a game drive through prime Big Cat territory, with your guide — also a certified birding specialist — pointing out raptors and rarities most safaris miss entirely.

Depart the Mara and drive north to Lake Nakuru, one of the most beautiful of Kenya's Rift Valley lakes and a designated rhino sanctuary. Check into Hillcourt Resort & Spa, under an hour from the park gate, and head out for an afternoon game drive. Watch for flocks of pink flamingos along the lakeshore, both black and white rhino, and troops of Rothschild's giraffe found almost nowhere else in Kenya.

This morning, trade the vehicle for a bicycle. Hell's Gate is one of the only parks in Kenya where you can cycle or walk freely among zebra, giraffe, and buffalo — no Big Cats here, just open plains, dramatic gorges, and towering volcanic cliffs that inspired scenes from The Lion King. Check into Hotel Chambai Safari, under an hour from the park, and spend the afternoon exploring the gorge on foot with your guide.

Head south toward Amboseli, the park famous the world over for one image: herds of elephant walking beneath the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Amboseli Mountain View Camp, just outside the park, in time for a golden-hour game drive.
Amboseli holds some of the largest elephant herds left in Africa, alongside buffalo, giraffe, and — on a clear day- Africa's tallest mountain as your backdrop.

A full day dedicated to Amboseli's open plains and swamps. Morning and afternoon game drives bring you close to its famous elephant families, along with lion, hyena, and prolific birdlife across the park's marshland.
