Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands

Begin the day with a morning game drive in Central Serengeti, the ecological heart of the park, where permanent water sources support wildlife year-round. This area is known for its high density of big cats, especially lions that have established long-term territories, offering exceptional predator sightings in the varied habitats of kopjes, plains, and river lines. Wildlife behaviour changes as landscapes transition, from open savannah to woodland corridors, often revealing the Big Five.

After lunch, depart Serengeti and ascend toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, a scenic journey that few itineraries fully highlight. The drive passes through cooler climates, Maasai homelands, volcanic highlands, and fertile farmlands, offering a cultural and geographical contrast to the plains below. Arrive at your lodge by late afternoon for an overnight stay, enjoying crisp air, elevated views, and a peaceful atmosphere that naturally prepares you for the crater experience ahead.

This vast volcanic caldera shelters a self-contained ecosystem where wildlife remains year-round, supported by permanent water sources and rich grazing grounds. The crater offers exceptional game viewing in a compact area, including large buffalo herds, elephants with impressive tusks, hippos, and one of the highest lion densities in Africa. It is among the few places where the critically endangered black rhino can be reliably spotted. Scenic lakes attract flamingos and diverse birdlife, while open plains and forested sections reveal contrasting habitats within a single drive.

A picnic lunch is enjoyed on the crater floor before ascending in the afternoon and continuing the journey onward, concluding the safari with one of Tanzania’s most iconic and rewarding wildlife experiences. You will be dropped off at your lodge in Arusha.
