Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp

Begin your Kilimanjaro adventure at Umbwe Gate, where registration is completed before trekking through dense montane rainforest. Follow a steep, winding trail beside the Umbwe River, surrounded by lush vegetation, before reaching Umbwe Cave Camp at approximately 2,900m for your first night.

Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp

Leave Umbwe Cave Camp as the dense forest gradually gives way to open moorland. Climb toward Barranco Valley while enjoying dramatic views of the Western Breach appearing through the mountain mist. Arrive at Barranco Camp, set beneath Kilimanjaro’s impressive southern slopes, for dinner and overnight.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, an exciting scramble rewarded with spectacular mountain views. Continue across rocky terrain toward Karanga Valley beneath the Heim, Kersten and Decken glaciers. Reach Karanga Camp at around 3,930m, where you will rest and acclimatize overnight.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Depart Karanga and follow the trail toward the junction with the Mweka descent route before climbing to Barafu Camp at approximately 4,600m. Enjoy impressive views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Spend the afternoon resting, having an early dinner and preparing your equipment for the midnight summit attempt.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Begin your summit climb around midnight, ascending through steep scree toward Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m, Africa’s highest point. Celebrate breathtaking sunrise views before descending via Barafu Camp toward Mweka Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and a well-earned rest.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

After breakfast, descend through the montane forest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate and celebrate your achievement. You will then be transferred comfortably to the airport for your flight back to your home country, marking the end of your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure.
