Depart Addis Ababa and travel south through the spectacular Great Ethiopian Rift Valley, passing volcanic landscapes, fertile farmland and scenic lakes. Visit Lake Ziway, an important freshwater lake renowned for abundant birdlife, including pelicans, storks and fish eagles. Continue to Abijatta–Shalla National Park, where alkaline lakes, open savannah and volcanic scenery provide excellent opportunities for birdwatching, short nature walks and photography. Continue to Hawassa and arrive in the late afternoon.
