Your safari begins in Kasane, where you will be collected from your accommodation in the morning by your Leon Safaris guide before entering Chobe National Park. The journey quickly moves from town into one of Botswana’s best-known wildlife areas, with the Chobe River creating a rich environment for elephant, buffalo, antelope and a wide variety of birdlife.
The transfer to camp forms part of the safari, with game viewing beginning as soon as you enter the park. Your guide will take time with interesting sightings along the way before arriving at your mobile camp on the Chobe Riverfront.
After settling into your Meru-style safari tent with private ensuite bush ablutions, enjoy time to relax before heading out on an afternoon game drive. As the day cools, wildlife becomes more active along the river. Return to camp around sunset for drinks, dinner and your first night in the Botswana wilderness.

Wake early for your first full day along the Chobe Riverfront, one of Botswana’s most productive wildlife areas. After coffee and a light breakfast in camp, head out on a morning game drive to explore the riverine woodland, open floodplains and tracks that follow the Chobe River.
This area is especially well known for large herds of elephant and buffalo, while lion, leopard, hyena, antelope and abundant birdlife are also regularly encountered. Your guide will take time with sightings and adjust the route according to wildlife movement and conditions.
Return to camp for brunch and a relaxed midday break before heading out again in the afternoon. As the heat begins to ease, wildlife activity increases around the river and surrounding plains. Return to camp around sunset for drinks, dinner and another evening in the heart of Chobe National Park.

Welcome to Savuti
After breakfast, leave the Chobe Riverfront behind and begin the journey south towards Savuti. The transfer is an important part of the safari, taking you through changing landscapes as the riverine woodland gradually gives way to the drier and more rugged country of central Chobe National Park.
Game viewing continues throughout the journey, with your guide stopping for interesting wildlife sightings along the way. Elephant, giraffe, antelope and predators may all be encountered as you travel deeper into the park. A packed lunch will be enjoyed at a suitable spot en route.
By late afternoon, arrive at your mobile camp in Savuti and settle into your Meru-style safari tent. Depending on arrival time, there may be an opportunity for a short afternoon game drive before returning to camp for drinks and dinner beneath the Botswana sky.

Wake early for your first full day in Savuti, one of Chobe National Park’s most famous wildlife areas. After coffee and a light breakfast in camp, head out on a morning game drive through open grasslands, woodland and the surrounding Savuti landscape.
Savuti is especially well known for predators, with opportunities to encounter lion, leopard, hyena and wild dog, as well as elephant, giraffe, zebra and other plains game. Your guide will follow fresh tracks and wildlife movement, allowing time to make the most of each sighting.
Return to camp for brunch and a relaxed midday break before heading out again in the afternoon. As temperatures cool, wildlife becomes more active and the changing light creates excellent conditions for photography. Return to camp around sunset for drinks, dinner and another night surrounded by the sounds of the wilderness.

Begin the day with an early morning game drive through Savuti, using the extra time in this remarkable area to explore beyond the main routes and follow wildlife movement from the previous day. With no camp move today, the pace can remain relaxed and flexible, allowing your guide to spend longer at rewarding sightings.
Savuti’s open plains, woodland and ancient channel systems support a wide range of wildlife, including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species, while lion, leopard, hyena and wild dog are all possible.
Return to camp for brunch and a quiet midday break before heading out again later in the afternoon. The second full day in Savuti gives you a deeper feel for the landscape and its wildlife. Return to camp around sunset for drinks, dinner and your final evening in this remote part of Chobe National Park.

After breakfast, leave Savuti behind and begin the journey south towards Khwai. The transfer is part of the safari experience, with game viewing continuing as you move through changing woodland, open plains and increasingly greener country towards the Okavango system.
Your guide will follow the route at an unhurried pace, stopping for interesting wildlife sightings along the way. A packed lunch will be enjoyed at a suitable spot before continuing towards Khwai.
As you approach the area, the landscape changes noticeably, with floodplains, riverine woodland and seasonal channels creating rich habitat for elephant, buffalo, antelope and predators. Arrive at your mobile camp later in the afternoon, settle into your Meru-style safari tent and enjoy some time to relax before dinner and your first evening in Khwai.

Wake early for a morning game drive through Khwai, exploring its floodplains, riverine woodland and seasonal channels as the area comes to life. Khwai is well known for excellent wildlife viewing, with opportunities to encounter elephant, buffalo, antelope and predators including lion, leopard and wild dog.
After returning to camp for brunch and a relaxed midday break, head out later in the afternoon for a traditional mokoro experience. Guided by an experienced poler, glide quietly through the channels and waterways, taking in the birdlife, aquatic vegetation and smaller details of the Okavango landscape.
The mokoro offers a peaceful contrast to the game drives and a different perspective of Khwai. Return to camp later in the afternoon for sundowners, dinner and another night surrounded by the sounds of the wilderness.

With a full day dedicated to Khwai, your guide has the flexibility to follow tracks, revisit productive areas and spend more time at rewarding sightings without rushing between destinations.
Return to camp for brunch and a relaxed midday break before heading out again in the afternoon. As temperatures begin to drop, the landscape comes alive once more and the changing light offers excellent photographic opportunities. Return to camp around sunset for drinks, dinner and your final evening in the wilderness.

Wake for your final morning in the wilderness before enjoying breakfast in camp and preparing for the journey back to Maun. Leaving Khwai behind, the route takes you through changing bushveld and open country, with the possibility of wildlife sightings along the way.
Your guide will continue to make the most of the journey, stopping for interesting encounters as the safari gradually comes to a close. A packed lunch will be enjoyed at a suitable spot en route before continuing towards Maun.
On arrival in Maun, you will be transferred to your accommodation or preferred drop-off point. After nine days travelling through Chobe, Savuti and Khwai, your safari concludes with a final farewell from the Leon Safaris team and the end of a journey through some of northern Botswana’s most rewarding wildlife areas.
