At 05:00 while Zanzibar is still wrapped in sleepy dawn light your driver greets you at your hotel and takes you to the airport. Soon after you touch down in Arusha, where your guide is waiting with a warm “Karibu!” and a cold drink. Then the landscape opens up around you. In Tarangire giant baobabs rise above herds of elephants, and your guide shares a lifetime of bush stories as you search for lions and wildlife. As the golden light fades, you drive up to Karatu where a comfortable lodge, a hot meal and a peaceful night’s sleep await.

Day 2
Into the Crater Then back to the Coast
Into the Crater Then back to the Coast
An early start is the secret of this day. Wake before sunrise, enjoy a quick breakfast and head down into the Ngorongoro Crater while the morning mist still lingers and the animals are most active. Lions, hippos and rhinos may appear around every bend while your guide tells the story of this remarkable place. With a picnic lunch by the water you sit back and soak it all in. By early afternoon you begin the scenic drive back to Arusha in time for your flight to Zanzibar landing with dusty boots full memory cards and a story you’ll tell for years.
