Gondar to Sankaber

Depart Gondar in the morning and drive 2 hours to Debark, the park headquarters, to complete formalities and permits. Meet your cook, scouts, and mule-men, then continue by 4x4 to Sankaber (3,250m). Begin a 2-3 hour acclimatization hike along the escarpment, enjoying your first dramatic views. Settle into Sankaber campsite for dinner and overnight camping under the stars.

Sankaber to Geech

After breakfast, pack up and begin the 5-6 hour trek to Geech (3,600m). Walk along the dramatic escarpment edge, encountering large troops of Gelada baboons, klipspringer, and bushbuck. Pass the spectacular Genbar Falls (a 500m sheer drop). In the evening, optionally climb Mount Kedadit for a stunning sunset. Overnight at Geech campsite.

Geech to Chennek via Imet Gogo

Today's trek (6-7 hours) takes you to the spectacular Imet Gogo viewpoint (3,926m), widely considered the most beautiful spot in the Simien Mountains. Continue through the Jinbar River Valley, keeping an eye out for the endemic Walia Ibex and Simien fox. Arrive at Chennek campsite (3,600m) for dinner and overnight camping beneath the towering peaks.

Bwahit Climb and Return to Gondar

Rise before dawn for the challenging climb to the summit of Mount Bwahit (4,430m), the second-highest peak in the Simien Mountains. Enjoy breathtaking sunrise views over the entire range before descending back to Chennek for a late breakfast. After packing up, meet your vehicle and drive back to Gondar, arriving in the late afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
