Fly from Lusaka to South Luangwa, Chikunto Safari Lodge
You fly from Lusaka to Mfuwe, where transfer to the park. It is 45 minutes to the gate and then a further hour game drive to Chikunto Safari Lodge. Keep your eyes open, game viewing starts immediately!
Chikunto is located on the Big Bend of the Luangwa River in South Luangwa National Park, near the quieter northern Nsefu sector. The camp is unfenced, so animals regularly walk through it. There are five tents on elevated platforms above the riverbank, linked by raised walkways. Each tent has been well designed to keep the view front and centre. The double and twin suites have an overhead fan, a writing desk, a sitting area and an open-plan bathroom with a private shower.
The main area is a large raised deck under high thatched roofs, looking over the river and a small waterhole. It holds the dining area, lounge, bar and a firepit, and there is a heated saltwater pool. Breakfast is around the campfire, followed by a two course lunch, high tea and dinner.

Explore South Luangwa with Chikunto
South Luangwa is one of the best-known wildlife parks in Africa, and the area around Chikunto is known for good game density and light vehicle traffic.
The river bend holds a pool of more than 200 hippo, and elephant, buffalo, giraffe and leopard are regularly seen from camp and on drive.
The park is also home to three species found only in the Luangwa Valley: Thornicroft’s giraffe, Crawshay’s zebra and Cookson’s wildebeest.
Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, night drives and walking safaris. Full-day drives with a packed lunch can be arranged for those who want to cover more ground. Spend your down time on your private deck watching the birds and any passing wildlife, or swim in the lovely pool in front of the waterhole.

One tent is connected via a walk way for families. Air conditioning is available in the rooms.

Explore Lower Zambezi with Amanzi
Lower Zambezi National Park lies on the north bank of the Zambezi, opposite Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools. Amanzi is surrounded by Mopane woodland and a Winterthorn grove, and elephant, hippo, buffalo and lion are seen regularly, along with a long bird list that includes Pel’s fishing owl, goliath heron and paradise flycatcher.
This is a wonderful place to end your safari with a range of activities that include early morning and day game drives, night drives, walks, canoe trips, boat trips and fishing (permits to be bought in camp). Canoeing and boat trips take you close to elephant feeding along the river and its channels. Walks start at dawn and concentrate on tracks, birds and the smaller details of the bush.
