Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by an Afriquest Travels representative and begin your scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. Enjoy beautiful views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, terraced farms, and picturesque countryside along the way.

Upon arrival in Ruhengeri, proceed to your lodge for check-in and lunch, depending on your arrival time. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge or enjoying the surrounding scenery as you prepare for the exciting primate trekking experiences ahead.

In the evening, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. You will receive guidance on gorilla trekking procedures, safety precautions and responsible wildlife viewing before entering the forest.

Accompanied by experienced ranger guides and trackers, venture into the forested slopes of the Virunga Mountains in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family.

Once you locate the gorillas, spend one unforgettable hour observing their behaviour, watching them feed, interact, and care for their young. Photography is permitted without flash, and visitors must follow the ranger's instructions throughout the encounter. The trekking duration varies depending on the gorillas' location.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation. Spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure, enjoying the peaceful surroundings of the Virunga region.

In the evening, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge.

Golden Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Kigali

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your golden monkey trekking adventure in Volcanoes National Park.

Accompanied by an experienced ranger guide, enter the bamboo forests in search of the endangered golden monkeys. These lively primates are known for their distinctive golden-orange fur, playful movements, and fascinating social behavior.

Once you locate the troop, you will have time to observe and photograph these remarkable primates according to park regulations. The encounter is limited to one hour.

After completing the trek, return to the starting point and meet your driver-guide for the journey back to Kigali. Depending on your departure schedule, enjoy lunch along the way or in Kigali.

Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for your onward journey, marking the end of your memorable Safari.
