Drive to Awash Park, Awash Falls & Mount Fentale

Depart Addis Ababa early in the morning, driving east through the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley. Arrive at Awash National Park by late morning and head straight to the park headquarters to witness the magnificent Awash Falls, where the roaring river plunges dramatically into a deep, steep-sided gorge. After lunch, embark on an exciting afternoon excursion to the base and rim of the dormant Mount Fentale volcano, hiking across striking black obsidian lava flows and ancient basalt fields. Enjoy sweeping views over the savanna before heading to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay near the park.

Filwoha Hot Springs, Wildlife Drive & Return to Addis

Start your morning early with a drive to the northern sector of the park to visit the palm-fringed Filwoha Hot Springs, where natural turquoise-blue thermal pools bubble up against the arid landscape. Keep an eye out for troops of hamadryas baboons and vervet monkeys frequenting the springs. Afterward, enjoy a final wildlife game drive across the Ilala Sala Plain to spot characteristic dry-country species such as the graceful Beisa oryx, Soemmerring's gazelle, warthogs, and an incredible array of colorful savanna birdlife. After lunch, begin your return journey westward, arriving back in Addis Ababa by late afternoon for your evening international flight departure or hotel drop-off.
