Day 1

Drive from Kigali to Bwindi National Park

Drive from Kigali to Bwindi National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Kigali. After a short city drive, you head north-west toward the Rwanda–Uganda border. The journey unfolds through Rwanda’s scenic countryside, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” with terraced slopes, rural villages, and rolling farmland.

After border formalities at Katuna/Gatuna, the drive continues into Uganda’s highlands. The landscape gradually changes as thick forests and misty hills announce your approach to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

You arrive at your lodge in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is kept intentionally relaxed to help you recover from the drive and prepare for the next morning’s trek. Depending on arrival time and energy levels, you may enjoy a gentle community walk, visit a local village, or simply relax at the lodge while listening to forest sounds.

Gorilla trekking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

After an early breakfast, you transfer to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority guides. You receive instructions on gorilla trekking etiquette before being assigned a gorilla family based on fitness levels and trekking conditions.

The mountain gorilla trek begins as you enter the dense rainforest, following narrow trails beneath towering trees and thick vegetation. The trek can last anywhere from two to six hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you spend a powerful and intimate one hour observing them as they feed, groom, play, and interact in their natural habitat.

After the trek, transfer to Queen Elizabeth region. The drive takes you through changing landscapes, from forested hills to open savannah plains, with views of crater lakes and the distant Rwenzori ranges on clear days.

You arrive at Queen Elizabeth in the early evening. The lodge setting is peaceful, surrounded by nature, offering a perfect place to unwind.

Day 3

Morning game drive, Chimp tracking & transfer Kigali

Morning game drive, Chimp tracking & transfer Kigali

The day starts early with a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, when wildlife activity is at its peak. As the sun rises over the savannah, you explore open plains and game tracks in search of elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob, waterbuck, warthogs, and predators such as lions and hyenas. The cool morning air and golden light make this one of the best times for photography.

After the game drive, you exit the park and drive for about 45–60 minutes to Kalinzu Forest Reserve. Here, you join experienced local guides for mid-morning chimpanzee tracking. The forest is alive with sounds as guides locate chimpanzee groups using calls and fresh signs. Once found, you observe their energetic behavior as they move through the canopy, feed, and communicate loudly with one another. The trek typically lasts two to three hours.

Following the chimpanzee experience, you enjoy lunch and return to Rwanda.
