Serengeti to Karatu

After breakfast, enjoy a half-day safari in the heart of the Serengeti, where the endless plains come alive with predators on the hunt and herds grazing under the golden sun. Capture memorable sightings of lions, elephants, giraffes, and, with some luck, a swift cheetah moving across the open plains.

In the afternoon, depart the Serengeti with a game drive en route, heading toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey takes you through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its dramatic landscapes, volcanic formations, and traditional Maasai villages. This route offers excellent photographic opportunities and a gradual change from savannah to highland scenery.

As the sun begins to set, continue toward Karatu, arriving in the evening to check in at your lodge. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the cool highland atmosphere as you prepare for the next day of your safari.

Today is a highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” This natural amphitheater shelters over 25,000 large animals, including black rhinos, lions, elephants, and herds of wildebeest and zebras. The crater floor’s lakes and swamps attract hippos and flamingos, making for incredible diversity in a compact space. Spend the day exploring this wildlife haven before enjoying a picnic lunch at a scenic spot. In the afternoon, ascend the crater walls and return to Arusha, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel for overnight or to the airport for your onward flight, carrying memories of a truly extraordinary safari.
