In the morning, you will be picked up from Kampala at around 7:00 am and proceed to the southwestern part of the country. We stop at the equator for photos of this landmark and then continue to Mbarara. We break for lunch at Agip Motel then proceed to Bwindi National Park, the home of mountain gorillas. It is estimated to harbor half of the world’s surviving population of mountain gorillas. The drive is long but enjoyable. Proceed south to Bwindi forest, viewing the terraced hills of the Kigezi Highlands (formerly known as "Switzerland of Africa").

Mountain gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest
After breakfast, you will be escorted (with a packed lunch) to the starting point for a briefing by your guide. You will be allocated guides for the gorilla tracking, and then begin your adventure. The time it takes (2-9 hours) and the terrain varies, depending on the movement of these gentle giants. The thrill of meeting face to face takes away the pain of the sometimes long and arduous trek. Each encounter is different and has its own rewards. You are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming, and resting as the youngsters jump around.

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha for tree climbing lions
After an early breakfast, head for Ishasha which is the Southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will go on a game drive in search of the tree-climbing lions. Queen Elizabeth National Park borders Lake George and Lake Edward, as well as the Kazinga Channel in the western area of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. This adventurous journey will provide you with an opportunity to encounter some bird species like the nightjar, red-throated alethe, African green broadbill, red-faced woodland warbler, handsome francolin, short-tailed warbler, collared apalis, mountain-masked apalis, Archer’s robin-chat, dwarf honeyguide, Grauer’s warbler, dusky crimson wing, purple-breasted sunbird, regal sunbird, Shelley’s crimson wing, strip-breasted tit, blue-headed sunbird, Rwenzori turaco, Kivu ground thrush, yellow-eyed black flycatcher and the strange weaver.

Early morning game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga channel
Early in the morning after your cup of tea or coffee, you set off for a game drive in the park in search of more animals. Animals you can expect to see include predators like lion and leopard, and other species like buffalo, herds of Uganda kob, topi, waterbuck, and warthog. The park is also home to over 500 bird species, making it a mecca for bird watchers. They include the black bee-eater, 11 different species of kingfisher, and several falcons, eagles, and other raptors. In the afternoon, you depart for a boat ride on the channel that joins Lake Edward and Lake George. Here you will be able to see animals that come to drink water and other water species like schools of hippos and crocodiles.

Transfer to Kampala
After breakfast, you will be driven to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee tracking while on a primate walk. You will see chimps and other primates like colobus and vervet monkeys, as well as baboons. Afterward, you proceed to Kampala. Have a stop at the equator and take as many photos as possible for memories.

Shoebill tracking in Mabamba Swamp
After breakfast, your guide will drive you to visit the birds at Mabamba Swamp. The swamp is home to a variety of bird species like Shoebill stalk, African firefinch, African fish eagle, African green pigeon, African hoopoe, African jacana, African marsh harrier, African pygmy goose, black crake, black heron, black-crowned night heron, black-crowned waxbill, black-headed heron, black-winged stilt, blue swallow, blue-cheeked bee-eater, brown parrot, cattle egret, common bulbul, common moorhen, common sandpiper, common squacco heron, crowned hornbill, double-toothed barbet, Eastern grey plantain-eater, glossy ibis, goliath heron, great blue turaco, great cormorant, great white egret, great white pelican, green cuckoo, grey heron, grey parrot, grey woodpecker, grey-crowned crane, gull-billed tern, red-shouldered cuckoo shrike, Ross’ turaco, and saddle-billed stork.
