Its waters are highly alkaline and are unusually shallow, averaging just one meter in depth. After checking into your lodge and a short break, put your walking shoes on as a Maasai tribesman takes you on a walk around the shores of Lake Natron on the lookout for birds, especially the lesser flamingos. Lake Natron is the most important and regular breeding site for lesser flamingos in East Africa hosting up to 2 million of them during the breeding season. Central Serengeti National Park

Central Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, continue with both morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park. Remember this is the migration safari, and because Serengeti is very large, your game drives will depend on the move of the migrants. Your guide knows very well how to locate the herds. The Serengeti National Park is famous for the 'Great Migration', over one million wildebeest and two hundred thousand plus zebras each year follow the rains. In October and November, they travel from the mountains of the north, southwards to the plains seeking lush pastures. After the great rainy season in April, May, and June the herds then make their return journey. Even without this mass migration, the Serengeti is still an exciting and spectacular place that still cannot fail to enthral. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Osukupo Tented Camp on a full-board basis.

This stunning area lies south of the Serengeti and west of Ngorongoro but it sees very few of the travelers who make their way between the two. It all makes for a quieter, more intimate experience, but it also offers the best of both worlds, because it's a terrific area for seeing big cats (including lions that climb trees) and other wildlife, especially when the great migration passes through. Expect horizons that seem to go on forever and an extraordinary spray of stars in the night sky.

Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater.
