Nairobi – Amboseli National Park tour (250 km – approx 4 hrs)

In the morning, we pick you up from either the airport, hotel or your residence in Nairobi. We’ll head out in our private 4x4 safari van or Jeep for Amboseli National Park, driving along the Nairobi/Mombasa highway. Enjoy the scenic view of the African savannah with its local farms. You may spot Maasai herdsmen in their colourful wraps tending their cattle.

We’ll arrive at Amboseli Kibo Luxury Tented Camp in good time for lunch. Check in, freshen up, and have a relaxed lunch. The park lies along the arid and semi-arid regions which tend to be hot. Relax and enjoy the rejuvenating pool as you wait for the evening game drive.

As promised, the imposing form of Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates the scenery of this small park, where wildlife is often spotted through the sparse scrub.

The afternoon will see us on game drives, and we’re sure to see Amboseli’s famous elephants marching to or from a favorite watering hole. Dinner and overnight will be at Amboseli Kibo Luxury Tented Camp or similar.

Amboseli National Park discovery

Amboseli National Park discovery

We have a pre-breakfast followed by a morning game drive from 6:30 am when you have the best chance to see the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro and wildlife trying to make a kill. We return to the lodge for a late breakfast. Later, we explore the park with picnic lunch boxes served in the park. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

This park not only offers great game viewing, but also an excellent view of the iconic Mt. Kilimanjaro peak, best known as the "roof of Africa". The world's tallest free-standing mountain actually rises just across the border in Tanzania, and Amboseli has a postcard view of its snow-capped peaks. The best time to view "Kili" is at dawn and sunset when the clouds lift and the light is clear and soft.

The species list includes lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, hyena, giraffe, and cheetah. The bird watchers will be happy with a list that tops 300 species. Dinner and overnight will be at Kibo Safari Camp.

We depart from Amboseli after breakfast with an en-route game drive as you drive on the floor of the Rift Valley via Nairobi to Hell's Gate National Park.
We will have lunch at Mahiu Mahiu (place of hot water springs). We arrive at Lake Naivasha in good time for an optional boat ride as you view different bird species and encounter hippos.
The Lake Naivasha boat ride takes you to Crescent Island for a walking safari experience. This is one of the few places in the world where one can wander on foot amidst wild animals (there are no predators). We will spend the night at Lake Naivasha Sawela Lodge.

Note: You will be able to experience all sorts of travel and adventure activities here. The destination is a birding arena, inhabited by many birding species.

Your guide on this 6-day Kenya safari to Amboseli, Masai Mara, and Lake Naivasha is a specialized birding guide with excellent knowledge of flora and fauna.

Lake Naivasha - Masai Mara National Reserve tour

After breakfast, we will head out and explore Hell's Gate National Park before heading to the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. A visit to Lake Naivasha grants you the opportunity to close your eyes and listen quietly for the haunting call of the fish eagles and other bird species, only to open your eyes to the wonder of the world.

You will indeed be dazzled by the vibrant fuchsia display. The lake also hosts other optional activities that include a Hell's Gate National Park hike, bicycle riding, horseback riding, and a nature walking-safari experience at the Naivasha Crescent Island, amongst the other wildlife activities.

We will then exit Lake Naivasha and drive to Masai Mara with lunch at Narok town. We arrive at Masai Mara National Reserve in good time for an evening game drive. Day 5

Masai Mara National Reserve trailing the big cats

Masai Mara National Reserve trailing the big cats

Spend the better part of this day exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve in search of the big cats. Enjoy the spectacular view of other dramatic wildlife activities - from a wildlife wedding and a honeymoon, to lions hunting and battling it out for kingdom supremacy.

During game viewing, remember to keep a sharp lookout for a dramatic hunt, a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree, or a herd of elephants protecting their young from predators. The Mara is one of the richest wildlife areas with spectacular scenery of the wildebeest migration that happens to be at its peak from July to October.

Game viewing is never dull in the Mara throughout the year and patience is rewarded with unique sightings such as a pride of lion stalking prey. Dinner and overnight will be at Mara Leisure Camp.

There is also an opportunity to enjoy a hot-air balloon safari experience as well as a walking safari with an armed ranger along the Mara River.

Masai Mara National Reserve

After a wake-up call at 6 am, have a cup of hot coffee or African tea and proceed for an early morning game drive. The early hours offer you a golden opportunity to witness a Big 5 kill. Spot lions along the trails as well as other Kenya Big 5 including the leopard and black rhino if you're lucky.

The game viewing takes about 2 to 3 hours after which we return to the lodge or camp for a full breakfast. Afterward, check out of the camp. Should you choose, you can visit a Maasai village. You will be entertained by the Maasai Moran dance as well as a visit to a manyatta. Inside the manyatta, take as many photos as you can as a memory of your African cultural visit.

We then proceed to Nairobi with a stopover in Narok Town for a hot lunch. We arrive at the airport in the late afternoon to drop you off for your outbound flight. This is where the safari ends.
