Day 2

With an early breakfast, we transfer to Kibale National Park via the green lush Tea Plantations of the MightyToro region – The area is covered by black tea plantations and various crater lakes which make the drive thrilling as we go closer to the foot of Mountain of the Moon (Mountain Rwenzori). Check in at the lodge and go for the crater lakes exploration with a walk to the top of the world. If you are lucky you might see different species of Monkeys, such as red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies. More in the forest canopy colored aviation creatures-butterflies various bird species like the native Great Blue Turaco, joyful greenbul, olive long tailed cuckoo, the superb black bee eater. Retire your day at the lodge.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the home to the forest giants that are cousins to human beings, the gorillas. Have an early breakfast before setting off for your gorilla trekking adventure with a specialized guide. Besides the gorillas this Impenetrable Forest is full of birds, butterflies and plant species plus forest hog, forest elephants, statungas and duikers. Enjoy the walk through the forest and spend one hour around the gorillas. After the gorilla trek your guide picks you and depending on the time you are back from trekking you drive to Queen Elizabeth national park. The aim is to spend the night at the edge of Queen Elizabeth national park, with an exciting drive there with chance of seeing baboons and other monkeys along the way as well as a the chance of spotting elephants from the lodge. Retire your day here at the lodge.

With breakfast at leisure, we explore the tea plantation fields learning more how black tea is grown and harvested. You can take part in plucking the tea leaves which makes the experience more fascinating. Then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Option to drive further southwards with the Rwenzori ranges (Longest in Africa) in view or drive through the Crater lakes in the Hills through to sample out the surprising diversity of Savannah trees and wildlife! In the late evening, we shall take on a boat cruise along the famous Kazinga channel that links lake Edward and George. Look out for the hippos, elephants, buffaloes without forgetting the Nile crocodile and many water birds like the pied kingfisher, fish eagle among others. Head and check in at your lodge and retire the day.

We will drive off in the adventurous vast savannah of the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth NP with Topis, the southern version of Elephants and hopefully with the lions high in the Fig tree branches. This is one of two areas in Africa where lions have the habit of regularly climbing trees to take a rest. Transfer on to Bwindi mountain gorillas through a beautiful drive taking you from the savanna via cultivated hills to the jungle covered mountains of Bwindi. (If we reach early we can do the walk and mix with the locals).

Spend the day tracking the endangered Mountain Gorilla, spending up to an hour among them. See mothers keeping infants close as they knucklewalk on three limbs. Watch scampering toddlers reined in by an attentive father. Late in the day, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for an overnight in the middle of Africa’s second deepest lake.

Today we enter the Serengeti National Park from the less visited western gate, and you will marvel at the multitude of animal and bird life while journeying through this acacia-spotted savannah. Game sightings abound. We arrive at the in time to enjoy a respite from the dirt roads and heat of the day and enjoy a hearty lunch. Later on in the afternoon, as the animal kingdom comes alive, continue your search for the “Big 5″ – lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino – while taking in the vastness of the Serengeti plains heading for the lodge as the sun sets on this magnificent animal kingdom. Retire your busy day at the camp as you wait for dinner.

After an early rise spend the morning exploring the vast Serengeti and we move from location to location in search of sometimes elusive game and visit a waterhole known for its Hippos and alligators. Visit the Masai Kopjes, airstrip area and then back to the heart of Serengeti. This is a great day to witness the wildebeest migration crossing the mighty Mara river towards Masai Mara area in Kenya. Enjoy the cool views of the savannah grassland from your tented camp as we call it a day.

In the afternoon we descend to the crater floor where you will be amazed by the sheer number and diversity of animals and birdlife. Standing in our pop up safari vehicle the viewing opportunities are endless, just deciding which way to look and what to look at, the choices are unlimited. The sheer excitement as we spot any of the big 5. Tonight as we relax we reflect on what has been a truly remarkable journey like no other experience and marvel in the wonders of the amazing wildlife East Africa has to offer.
