Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, your Lappet Faced Safaris guide will collect you from your accommodation for the drive to Tarangire National Park—a journey of approximately 2.5 hours along smooth, paved roads. Named after the life-giving Tarangire River, often called the “river of warthogs,” this park becomes a vital refuge for wildlife during the dry season. Tarangire is famed for its large elephant herds, which are frequently seen gathering along the riverbanks. As you explore, keep your eyes open for giraffes, bushbuck, hartebeest, and an array of predators including lions and leopards, which follow the herds closely. Remarkably, Tarangire hosts more breeding bird species than anywhere else on Earth, making it a paradise for bird lovers. Continuing your journey, you'll transit through the conservation area, passing through Maasai lands and ever-changing landscapes, until you reach the southern gate of Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is truly one of the most spectacular wildlife destinations on Earth. Its name means “endless plains” in the Maasai language, and it delivers exactly that—vast open grasslands that provide unparalleled opportunities for wildlife sightings. Often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," the Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. Formed two to three million years ago when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself, it is now a haven for wildlife and one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions.
As you descend the steep crater walls, you'll enter a world of sweeping savannahs, acacia woodlands, sparkling lakes, and seasonal swamps. This compact ecosystem supports an extraordinary concentration of animals, including wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 species of birds.

Lake Manyara is best known for its dramatic setting beneath the towering Great Rift Valley Escarpment, which rises sharply above the park's western boundary. At its heart lies the park’s namesake, a shallow alkaline lake that expands and contracts with the seasons. It draws thousands of wading birds, including vibrant flamingos and over 500 bird species, making it a paradise for bird watchers. The park also features lush evergreen forests, where you might spot elephants, baboons, and, if you're lucky, the famous tree-climbing lions—a rare behavior that has made Manyara’s lions known throughout Africa.
