Day 1

Transfer from Entebbe to Kasese

You'll transfer from Entebbe to Kasese with our driver-guide with a few stops for refreshments and lunch as you enjoy the long drive through the countryside. Along the way, you will encounter and have beautiful views of tea plantations, forests, banana plantations, and views of Mount Stanley in Kasese with clear weather.

The journey takes 7 to 9 hours, so you'll be arriving late in the afternoon to check into your hotel.

Day 2

Transfer to Mihunga Gate (1651m asl) to Nyabitaba Hut (2651m asl)

Check out of your hotel for the transfer to the Mihunga Park gate for a briefing to start off your hike. You will meet your guides, porters, and chef as you get briefed on the day's hike to Nyabitaba Camp for overnight.

You will hike through montane forest vegetation, crossing the Kyoho River through the Kyoho Bridge and Mahoma River through the Mahoma Bridge. The day's hike takes 3 to 5 hours, depending on your pace.

Along the hike, you will be able to see the 3-horned chameleon, the black and white colobus monkey, the vervet monkey, and several birds.

Day 3

Hike from Nyabitaba Camp to John Matte Camp

Have an early breakfast at 7 am to start off your hike at 8 am in the morning. Hike from Nyabitaba Hut and descend to the Mubuku Valley. Cross the Kurt Schaffer Bridge before climbing through the heather zone to reach the resting point. Proceed through the heather trees with hanging moss along the rock-covered trail with rocks on the sides covered by algae to reach a boggy section.

Have another rest at Nyamuleju Camp before proceeding through a tough boggy section and thereafter climb to John Matte Camp. Today's journey takes 7 to 9 hours, depending on your pace. You'll arrive late in the afternoon for a hot lunch in the camp.

Day 4

From John Matte Hut, the trail drops to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. The upper Bigo Bog gives way to Lake Bujuku, with views of Mount Baker to the south and Mount Stanley to the west.

After a 1-hour trek through the tough bog around Lake Bujuku in the Bujuku Valley, arrive at the camp for a hot lunch and rest. This camp is good for acclimatization for clients attempting the summits of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke Peaks.

Dinner and overnight will be at Bujuku Hut.

Day 5

Wake up at 2 am to start the hike through Stullmans Pass (4,192m asl). You'll have spectacular views of Virunga National Park of DR Congo to the Vittorio Emanuele peak (4,890m asl), the highest point on Mount Speke. It will take 4 to 5 hours to ascend and the elevation height is 230m.

Prepare to descend back to Bujuku Camp from Vittorio Emanuele with views of the Bujuku Valley and Lake Bujuku, and the Margherita and Albert Peaks on Mount Stanley, and also Mount Baker. The descent will take 3 to 4 hours.

Overnight will be at Bujuku Camp.

Day 6

Leaving Bujuku Camp, the trail takes you through more bog, while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake and through the magical forest of Groundsel Gully. Turn to your right up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders. Hike through slippery rocks before reaching Elena Hut. The hike duration is 5 to 6 hours, with the elevation height at 579m.

Day 7

Wake up early for breakfast as you attempt climbing the highest peak of Mount Stanley in the Rwenzori Mountain ranges. The climb takes about 4 to 5 hours to summit, depending on the weather and the pace.

This tough walk takes you over 3 glaciers, slippery rock, ice and very exposed areas which are open on many sides. Equipped with your trekking gear and with the help of your guides, expect to abseil on a rope properly set by our expert guides. You'll climb steep rocks on the ropes with open boulders on the sides before reaching Margherita Peak. The descent from Margherita Peak back to Elena Hut will take about 2 to 3 hours.

After a hot lunch at Elena Hut, descend to the Scott-Elliot Pass (4,372m asl) where there are spectacular views of Lake Bujuku and Mount Speke. The trail passes through an alpine zone of sparse vegetation and rough boulders.

Descend past the Kitandara Lakes for dinner and overnight at the Kitandara Camp. The total descent duration will be 3 to 4 hours.

Day 8

Wake up early to trek from Kitandara Camp through the Fresh Field Pass (4,215m asl) with views of DR Congo up to Edward Peak (4,844m asl). It will take 5 to 6 hours to ascend the elevation height of 413m.

From Edward Peak, descend back to Fresh Field Pass and then back to Kitandara Camp for overnight. The descent will take 3 to 4 hours. This completes the third peak of your Rwenzori Mountains hike.

From Kitandara, take the trail that ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker. Continue along the south side of the mountain to Fresh Field Pass (4,282m asl). At this point, you can view the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north. From the pass, take on the long, high alpine moss.

Descend through the steep, rocky trail and the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. Arrive at Guy Yeoman Hut late in the afternoon for a hot lunch, dinner and an overnight stay. The duration of the hike is 6 to 7 hours. Around this camp, you'll be able to get a mobile service connection for emergency communication.

Day 10

Descend from Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Camp (265m asl) to Mihunga Gate (165m asl) to Kasese

You'll descend from Guy Yeoman down the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu, the muddy path crosses the Mubuku River twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit.

Descend back to Nyabitaba Camp and then to Mihunga Park gate to be picked up by your driver-guide. This marks the end of your Rwenzori climbing with a 3-peak summit expedition. The duration of the descent is 7 to 8 hours.
