Day 1

Airport pick up and transfer to Kasese

You will be met by our driver guide on arrival at Entebbe international airport and transferred to the country side viewing lush green landscapes to Kasese in the Rwenzori sub-region.
You will have a lunch stop over in Mubende or Fort portal depending on your travel time.
You can enjoy a visit to the tea plantations and local roadside market visits enroute to Kasese.

Day 2

Transfer from Kasese to Rwenzori mountains national park Kasanzi camp

After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel in Kasese town to Omukorukumi which is a 1 hour drive and start your hike through the community to reach Rwenzori Mountains National Park Kasanzi camp.
This will be a light day with majorly a hike through the community to the first campsite in the Rwenzori mountains of the moon along the Bukurungu wilderness camping trail.
This is a camp site with several wooden shelter huts where our guides and porters will pitch a tent for you. This camp is generally warmer than any other first camp in the Rwenzori mountains despite being above 2,400 metres above seal level.

Day 3

After breakfast, take on the trail which bends west on the ridge overlooking the Kasuka and Isule valleys and onward to Akebitakuli for some rest while taking a breath and thereafter, hike through the montane rain forest overlooking bamboo forested valleys. Encounter plant species like the Disa stairssi, Scadoxus cyrtanthiflorus, Impetiens olobuse and spot or hear calls of black and white Colobus monkeys, The Rwenzori Turaco and other birds.
The trail will lead you through the heather zone bypassing Rwigho Camp immediately after crossing River Rwigho.
On this day you will see lots of giant lobelias, everlasting flowers and rock shelters.
This hike will take you 5 – 6 hrs with a stopover for a hot lunch at Mitiyighaghire.
Arrive at Kambeho campsite and the guides will pitch a tent for you for the overnight.

Day 4

You will have an early morning breakfast and leave this campsite headed for Mughuli camp which is located near the beautiful Lake Mughuli with amazing views in the valleys and ridges near Mount Gessi to the North and the portal peaks to the south west.

Day 5

Early morning leave Kambeho camp after a somewhat cold night climbing along River Lhume taking the Mughuli pass the only steep bypass on the trail.
After a steep climb on Mughuli bypass descend down past Lake Mughuli which is within a strong MTN network service to allow you catch up with some mobile phone calls before proceeding to Lamia camp.
There are several unnamed beautiful peaks which can easily be climbed by those interested as they acclimatize for climbing the Portal peaks and Mount Gessi. Around the camp, you can easily explore the water falls which gives the real taste of the Rwenzori mountains waters. Overnight at Lamia camp.

Day 6

Lami camp to Bigo camp

Lami camp to Bigo camp

This is your last day along the Bukurungu Rwenzori mountains climbing route joining the Central circuit trail at the beginning of the lower Bigo bog before crossing River Bujuku.
Descend down from Lamia camp down past the Bukurungu lakes before reaching the Bujuku River bridge on the lower Bigo walk boards.
Climb gently to Bigo camp to pitch your tents for an overnight or sleep at John Maate hut for a warmer night.

Day 7

Bigo camp to Irene Lakes camp

Today we enter the alpine zone and trek all the way up to the summit camp on the north-eastern flank of Mount Stanley preparing to summit Margherita peak 5,109m asl the next morning.
We will climb from Bigo camp to the Upper Bigo bog crossing River Bujuku several times before reaching Lake Bujuku in the Bujuku valley below Mount Baker, Mount Speke and Mount Stanley.
Continue the climb up to Irene Lakes camp at 4,495m asl East of the Elena camps at 4,505m asl.
Sleeping at Irene Lakes camp gives you a shorter summit time and allows you to descend back from the high altitude faster after your summit of Mount Stanley in the Rwenzori mountains ranges.

Day 8

Have an early morning breakfast and start trekking up to summit Margherita peak, have a photo moment to celebrate and keep memories of reaching the highest point in Uganda.
Return to Irene Camp for a quick lunch before climbing down to Bigo Camp for an overnight.

This is final day of the 8 Days Rwenzori climbing with Margherita peak via the Bukurungu trail that leaves you mesmerized with the urge to come back. With your guide and porters over the ridge, local telecommunication signals, our guide will connect with the office to pick you from the Mihunga park gate.

After your rest overnight, you will be transferred to Entebbe international airport via Fort portal road or Mbarara road through Queen Elizabeth national park to have a view of and stand at the Equator line.
Thereafter proceed to Entebbe arriving late in the afternoon to catch your departure flight.
