Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake at the base of the Western Rift Valley escarpment. The park has a remarkable variety of habitats in a small area. The park entrance leads to a beautiful groundwater forest. Other habitats include the grassy floodplain, rocky escarpment, and acacia woodland, all of which can be covered in a half-day visit. Deeper into the park, you'll enjoy a visit to the hot springs.

Day 2

The Serengeti is one of the most famous national parks with wildlife and classic African scenery. It is Tanzania's oldest park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to the spectacular wildebeest migration and offers top-class wildlife viewing throughout the year. Every year, over 2 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles migrate from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. If you're there at the right time, you can spot herds of wildebeest and zebras stretching to the horizon.

The Serengeti offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. All the major safari animals occur in great numbers. Cheetah and four of the Big Five are easily seen, but rhino sightings are rare, and only black rhinos are present. Aside from the big cats, many other predators can be spotted, including spotted hyena (especially in the morning).

Day 4

In the morning after breakfast, you'll have a little game drive around the Serengeti park with a packed lunch or drive back for a hot lunch. The availability of seeing cheetah and four of the Big Five is high, but rhino sightings are rare to see. After the game drive, you'll start heading to the Ngorongoro area for dinner and an overnight stay at Rhino Lodge before it gets dark because of the weather in Ngorongoro around the rim.

Day 5

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you'll drive from Rhino lodge to the Crater. A visit to the Ngorongoro Crater is a lifetime experience. Few places have wildlife densities and variety on this level. It is not unusual to see the Big Five in one day, and all this in the most amazing, Ngorongoro Crater offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. All the major safari animals occur in great numbers. The resident population of black rhinos is a real treat, as rhinos are very difficult to spot elsewhere in Tanzania, with a backdrop of the 600m (deep) 1,968 ft-high crater wall.

Day 6
Tarangire National Park to Arusha
Tarangire National Park to Arusha
In the morning, after breakfast, you'll drive to Tarangire National Park. Up to 300 elephants can be found, looking for underground streams in the dry riverbeds, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. Abandoned termite mounds often house mongoose colonies. All the main predators are present, but because of thick vegetation, not spotted as often as in some of the other parks in northern Tanzania.
