After breakfast, you will set out for Antsirabe through the rice terraced highlands. Passing picturesque villages, you will reach the town after a three-hour drive. Antisrabe is an important center of trade, agriculture, and industry. The mountain climate of 1500m altitude and thermal springs once made the town a luxurious health resort. Today villas, lush gardens, and the honorable colonial hotel still bear testimony to this. Nowhere else in Madagascar is as crowded with bicycle rickshaws—the so-called "pousse-pousse.” Taking a tour of the city is highly recommended. You will get an insight into some of Madagascar's gems.

In 1986, German primatologist Bernhard Meier significantly contributed to the development of nature tourism in Ranomafana with the discovery of a new species of bamboo lemur, the "golden bamboo." You’ll also experience an impressive landscape change from the terraced highlands to the dry region of the south at the huge granite formation "Gateway of the South." This is a journey into another world, shaped by herds of cattle and their herdsmen—the Bara, one of the original ethnic groups of Madagascar. Grass steppes are interrupted by imposing rocks and rivers, and you’ll pass small villages under mango trees. Passed the bishop's hat, a holy place to the local people, you will reach your destination for today: the village of Ranohira in the Isalo mountains. At the end of the afternoon, you can admire the impressive sunset.

Ranohira is famous for nearby Isalo National Park. A day trip through the sandstone formations here is worthwhile. Despite the dry climate, streams with crystal clear water run through the deep gorges and provide small green oases. Let yourself be impressed by the spectacular mountain landscape with rocks that shimmer in color. The gorges and deep canyons carry the water during the dry season and are considered the park’s irrigation. After a hike, a beautifully laid out, natural swimming pool awaits you.

One of the many protected areas of the Big Island, Zombitse is home to one of Madagascar's most famous mammals: lemurs. Eight distinct varieties of lemurs take up residence in the heart of the lush vegetation here, which is so unusual in the savannah. The Verreaux's sifaka—whose scientific name is Propithecusverreauxi—is one of the park's star attractions. The wealth of endemic birds here is also one of the particularities of Zombitse.
