After collecting your bags, we’ll make the short trip to the splendid Arusha Planet lodge, located in nearby Arusha. This pleasant hotel is known for its lush landscaping, meals around the campfire, and incomparable hospitality. Tomorrow, your Tanzania Family Safari will begin in earnest—you can spend the rest of this afternoon at your leisure, enjoying the idyllic resort ambience or going for a swim before dinner.

Day 2

During your Tanzania Family Safari, you and your loved ones will get to experience the very best of the country’s classic northern safari circuit, beginning with Tarangire National Park. This spectacular wildlife reserve lies just three hours from Arusha, and we’ll get an early start today in order to make the most of our time in the bush. Tarangire is a wonderland of rolling hills, colossal baobab trees, and winding rivers—but most of your attention is sure to be captured by the huge herds of elephants which call the park home. After spending plenty of time with these gentle giants, we’ll scour the park for its other resident game, including lions, zebra, and buffalo. Your accommodations tonight will be at the Lake Burunge Tented Lodge, where your family will enjoy their first night under canvas in spacious, comfortable safari tents.

Day 3

Your Tanzania Family Safari continues this morning as we depart from Tarangire National Park, bidding farewell to this vast wilderness where elephants still roam freely. Our destination today is the world-renowned Serengeti National Park: the crown jewel of Tanzania’s wildlife reserves. We’ll reach the park after about four hours on the road, but this is no boring road trip. We’ll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area along the way, where giraffes, baboons, and buffalo wander right by the roadside. After reaching the Serengeti itself, we’ll enjoy an amazing game drive, full of sights for the whole family to enjoy. This evening, you’ll enjoy a first-class meal and lovely tented accommodations at Embalakai Camp, which boasts superb views of the acacia-dotted plains and specializes in catering to family groups.

Day 4

The most intrepid amongst your family will savor the opportunity to wake before sunrise this morning and enjoy a hot cup of tea in the predawn darkness. The experience of watching the day breaking across the Serengeti savanna is sure to cement itself as a highlight of your Tanzania Family Safari. With the sun now risen in the sky, we’ll hop into our vehicle and begin searching the bush for all the animals you’ve come to see. Depending on your preference, we can return to Embalakai Camp for lunch or spend the entire day on safari, stopping at a scenic locale to enjoy a packed picnic-style lunch right in the heart of the wilderness. Later this evening, we’ll enjoy a hearty meal back at camp before settling around the campfire to swap stories and share the intriguing lore of the mysterious African bush.

Day 5

After breakfast this morning, we’ll bid a very fond farewell to the Serengeti National Park—but your adventures in the Tanzanian wilderness are far from over. Your Tanzania Family Safari continues today as we make the two-hour drive back through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to descend into the impressive Ngorongoro Crater itself. The crater represents the remnants of an ancient volcano which erupted more than two million years ago, and its collapse has created the perfect haven for many species of African wildlife. You’ll find lions and hyenas aplenty on the crater floor, not to mention buffalo, blue wildebeest, and the rare black rhinoceros. After exploring the crater to our hearts’ content, we’ll travel to the nearby Marera Valley Lodge for tonight’s accommodations.

Day 6

After savouring a sumptuous breakfast at the elegant Marera Valley Lodge, we’ll make the short drive to the village of Mto wa Mbu to get acquainted with local Tanzanian culture. We’ll visit farms and schools, shop for locally produced handicrafts and curios, and sample some authentic Tanzanian food. Depending on your travel arrangements, we’ll return you to the Kilimanjaro International Airport this afternoon in time for your outgoing flight. If your flight leaves tomorrow, your itinerary will include an extra night in Arusha before departing from Tanzania.
