Flamingo Walk Lake Natron

Flamingo Walk Lake Natron

The Rift Valley’s Lake Natron is the chosen mating ground of the endangered lesser flamingo. To most other living creatures, Lake Natron is hell on earth but the long-legged waterfowl flourishes here. The lake’s steeply alkaline waters are unattractive to small birds, while the lake flats provide a variety of environments for birds that do well in the alkali oasis. The best time to spot birds at Lake Natron is when the flamingos of Natron lay their eggs - normally during the end of the dry season between September and October. The hatching starts in the early parts of the wet season and climaxes by December.

Join a Maasai guide for a Flamingo Walk and walk up to the lake. Get ready for a road trip through beautiful landscapes on your way to Africa Safari Maasai Boma, where you will spend the night. As the accommodation’s name suggests, it is inspired by a traditional Maasai boma. Look around you and you’ll understand why -you’ll be immersed in the Maasai culture!
