Lake Natron is one of the most famous lakes in the Northern circuit and situated close to an active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai known for its thin silvery lava. The minerals, such as salt, soda, and magnesite, from the volcano, have turned Natron into an incredibly alkaline water body which has also made it deadly for many creatures. So as the birds and animals die near the lake, the high content of salt calcifies their dead bodies turning them into stones.
Since the lake is encrusted with so much salt, Spirulina, a species of blue-green algae that loves salt, started growing. The algae have a red pigment which in turn makes a huge part of the lake seem red. Although, it is not red at all times. The colour deepens and fades.
So Lake Natron offers a completely different landscape to the rest of the safari locations in the northern circuit. Quite a few find the looming silhouette of Ol Doinyo Lengai in the background of the wide open plains of the lake, a spectacular scenery.

One of the most sought-after experiences for wildlife and nature enthusiasts, the Great Migration is the ever-moving circular migration of over a million animals across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The constant movement of columns of wildebeest, joined by a host of companions, follow an age-old route in search of grazing and water. After calving in the southern part of Tanzania's Serengeti near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the animals journey through the Serengeti up and around in a clockwise direction towards the Masai Mara in Kenya, before returning once again near the end of the year. Along the way, high drama is always present, as thousands of animals are taken by predators and thousands more are born, replenishing the numbers and sustaining the circle of life.
Enjoy an afternoon safari before returning to the Mara River Heritage Tented Camp for incredible entertainment and delicious food before falling asleep in comfort and style in a luxury tent.

When the drought comes in May, the herd moves north, towards the Masai Mara in Kenya, chasing the signs of distant thunderstorms which mean the high green grass they love, quickly followed by the gazelles and zebras who seek safety in numbers.
The migration is not without risk: crossing rivers means facing about 3,000 crocodiles, patiently waiting for a kill, not to mention the famous Serengeti lion population: by far the largest in Africa.
The annual movement of wildebeest and other herbivores across the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem consists of approximately 1.5 million wildebeest, 500 000 zebra, 200 000 Thompson’s gazelle and 18 000 eland, which is precisely why this is widely considered to be one of the most thrilling spectacles in the animal kingdom, an epic journey that is on the bucket list of every wildlife enthusiast in the world, including your own, so what are you waiting for?

The Ngorongoro Crater is a veritable fishbowl filled to the brim with a diverse array of wildlife, the hollowed out remains of a shield volcano which one stood higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa, which erupted two million years ago to create the twenty one kilometre wide national park we know and love today.
The main attraction of the Ngorongoro Crater is the incredibly rare black rhino population of over fifty individuals, which are supported by the year round water supply and lush vegetation due to the volcanic soil, along with one of the densest population of predators in the world, including lion, hyena, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard.
Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site beside a hippo pool so you can eat a sandwich right next to some sleeping hippos, which is every bit as incredible as it sounds!
The Ngorongoro Crater National Park is a must for anyone who wants the chance to see all of the big five: leopard, rhino, buffalo, lion & elephant.
