Day 1

Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

After breakfast, your driver guide will pick you from the city hotel. You will then depart for a scenic drive to Samburu National Reserve, via the central highlands of Kenya with views of coffee, tea, sisal, pineapple and subsistence farming activities. You will arrive in the dramatic semi-arid scrubland of the Northern Frontier in time for lunch. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the park. Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Ewaso Nyiro River. It is home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras, gerenuk, Beisa oryxes, and a host of the big game including elephant and lion. Dinner and overnight will be at the camp.

Day 2

Samburu National Reserve

Prepare yourself for an amazing region along the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu. This reserve is famous for its truly wild semi-arid landscape and the large concentration of wildlife. Samburu is popular for hosting the rare Northern Kenya animal species (Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich) which are not found in other popular parks and reserves in Kenya. It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard), alongside other big game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, impala, waterbuck and many others. This reserve is also a renowned bird watching haven, with hundreds of bird species residing here. You will spend your morning game drive which commences morning after breakfast when the animals are most active. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to photograph your sightings. Retire to the lodge for lunch and relax then go for afternoon game drive until evening and come back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Samburu to Lake Nakuru National Park

Early morning game and scenery viewing drive after breakfast as you exit the Samburu. There shall be a stop at the Thompson falls at Nyahururu. Proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park, a birdlife haven, at the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore. The park is also sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. Arrival will be in time for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon you will embark on a game drive before going back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Depart Lake Nakuru after breakfast and drive further along the floor of the Rift Valley with scenic views of both Lake Elementaita and Lake Naivasha en route, which are in the Great Rift from afar on the main highway to Masai Mara Game Reserve. Arrive Masai Mara game reserve in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive that introduces you to this vast game filled reserve. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Mara Camp.

To get some of the best game viewing of the day, an early start is needed to beat the heat of the sun.
