Day 1

Game drive in Lake Manyara National Park

Game drive in Lake Manyara National Park

Today, the driver-guide will pick you up from Arusha and hold a quick briefing before we depart to Lake Manyara National Park entrée gate. Upon arrival at the gate, you will patiently wait for the permits formalities to be issued and registrations.

Once the permits are sorted, get ready to explore one of the smaller but most scenic park – Lake Manyara Park. The spectacular alkaline Lake Manyara forms the centre point of this small and very beautiful park with surprisingly diverse fauna and flora. A circuit drive through the park passes through forest, wetlands, grassy plains and acacia forests, offering views of different animals and multitudes of birds. The park once became famous for tree climbing lions and if you are lucky to spot them you will be amused by the site of these animals lounging on branches in the acacia trees. The shallow Hippo Pool offers excellent opportunities for hippo sightings. Late afternoon we drive to the camp for evening leisure, dinner and overnight.

Two to three million years ago the large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself. As a result, the crater formed which then created a unique ecosystem with a wide variety of vegetation. The mix of forests, valleys, savannah, craters, lakes and swamps is home for a wide range of animals. This collapsed volcano is one of Tanzania’s most visited destinations, and it’s certainly not hard to see why. One of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders, the crater is home to the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa and is brimming with elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and even the rare black rhino.
