Tarangire National Park; Elephants, Lions, Leopard, Cheetah Galore
This national park is often people's favourite park on the northern safari circuit outside of the Serengeti since there is so much wildlife waiting around every corner and this is the park to visit if you want to see the big cats outside of the Serengeti.
Thanks to a heterogenous array of topography which provides lots of different plant and tree species ample room to grow, a diverse array of herbivores has been attracted to the area, which is why Tarangire National Park is the “Home of the Elephants” in Tanzania, along with lots of other species including buffalo, eland, gemsbok, zebra, wildebeest et al. Naturally, this attracts the attention of the predators that are always following closely behind their prey, the lions, leopards, cheetah, caracal, serval, jackal et al.
While there are no guarantees, nine times out of ten safaris, you are likely to see a cheetah, a leopard, and a lion in Tarangire National Park, the best chance to see a leopard outside the Serengeti.

Ngorongoro Crater, a Fishbowl Full of Wildlife, Including Black Rhino, Lions, Buffalo, and Hippo
The Ngorongoro Crater is a veritable fishbowl filled to the brim with a diverse array of wildlife, the hollowed out remains of a shield volcano which one stood higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa, which erupted two million years ago to create the twenty one kilometre wide national park we know and love today.
The main attraction of the Ngorongoro Crater is the incredibly rare black rhino population of over fifty individuals, which are supported by the year round water supply and lush vegetation due to the volcanic soil, along with one of the densest population of predators in the world, including lion, hyena, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard.
Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site beside a hippo pool so you can eat a sandwich right next to some sleeping hippos, which is every bit as incredible as it sounds!
The Ngorongoro Crater National Park is a must for anyone who wants the chance to see all of the big five: leopard, rhino, buffalo, lion & elephant.

Lake Manyara National Park, Home to Tree Climbing Lions, Elephants, Hippo, Buffalo, Monkeys & Birds
Lake Manyara National park is a serenely beautiful vibrantly verdant forest teeming with wildlife, including tree-climbing lions, and an abundance of elephants which Ian Douglas Hamilton, the famous Scottish explorer and naturalist, studied extensively to provide the world with a great deal of elephant behavioural research fifty years ago.
Lake Manyara is an alkaline lake and often hosts thousands of flamingos, along with a diverse array of other bird life, including the endemic silvery cheeked hornbill, but also the super rare bar tailed trogon, the holy grail of the birding world.
Expect to see a great number of hippos that love bathing in the shallow salty water of the lake where they spend their day quietly snoozing in a great big pod near the boardwalk, a long wooden walk way that lets visitors climb out of the safari car to stretch their legs and walk out across the lake without getting wet to get close as possible to the sleeping animals from a position of perfect safety.

Spend the Whole Day Relaxing on the Beach Without Looking at a Single Email or Message on your Phone
Situated on the east coast of this fabulous island, Paje is essentially a huge, long strip of white sand bordered by a small village on one side and a collection of beachfront accommodation services and eateries, as well as turquoise waters on the other, making Horizons Hotel Paje is the perfect place to relax.
On the beach it’s ok to wear bikinis and shorts, but if you head into the village I’d suggest exercising a bit more modesty.
You’ll likely see local women collecting seaweed at low tide in Paje. One of the uses for this is to make soap, which is sold locally via a women’s cooperative. A good way to sustainably support the community, the soap is fantastic, comes wrapped in a banana leaf and can be bought in local shops.
Paje is known for its water sports, especially kitesurfing and scubadiving, so if you are looking to dive Zanzibar, Paje is absolutely the place to come.
The night life in Paje rivals anything Nungwi has to offer as a party place once the sun goes down.

Transfer from Horizons Paje to Horizons Michamvi to Enjoy the Mangrove Swamps and Sunsets
This remote village is a quiet fishermen village, it has kept its charms, with no massive mass tourism resorts developments. Its beach called Michamvi Kae is stunning, a white sand pristine beach with blue turquoise water colours, that really portrays a typical tropical island beach paradise of the Indian Ocean.
Michamvi's white-sand, palm shaded beaches and clear, blue sea are a haven for honeymooners and rest-seekers.
Bordered on one side by an unbroken band of swaying coconut palms and on the other by the Indian Ocean’s turquoise waters, Michamvi’s beaches are the firm focus of this paradisiacal peninsula.
From its rugged tip, where you can view sunrise over the Indian Ocean and sunset over Chwaka Bay’s glassy waters, its spectacular shoreline runs south as a continuation of the East Coast’s palm-fringed coast.
Horizons Michamvi Hotel is located right on the beach, the lazulite waters of the Indian Ocean glistening temptingly right outside your room.
Spend the Day Surrendering to Serenity in Complete Comfort and Style at Horizons Michamvi Hotel
In all of Zanzibar’s East Coast, the beach slopes very little. Consequently, when the tide is out, the water retreats a long way, allowing for unique inter-tidal exploration along the exposed reef. Guided trips showcase stunning starfish, clams and colourful tropical fish and offer fascinating insight into reef life.
For an even more immersive view, the nearby fringe reef, which runs the length of the island, offers divers, snorkellers and swimmers super encounters with vibrant marine life. Both complete beginners and more experienced divers are well catered for in Michamvi, with the beautiful Blue Lagoon and well-organised trips to the reef readily available, along with dolphin snorkelling trips.
Next to Horizons Michamvi Hotel is a Mangrove Swamp which can be explored with a traditional wood catamaran with the opportunity to take a swim in the natural blue lagoon where the ocean and the mangrove meet.
The perfect way to unwind and relax at the end of your perfect safari holiday.
