However, its vegetation is much greener with lots of grass, vast areas with mixed acacia woodlands and some of the wonderful ribbons of the aquatic forest. The Ngorongoro Crater is a huge volcanic caldera, covering 100 sq. mi (260 sq. km) in Northern Tanzania. Formed approximately 2.5 million years ago when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself, the Ngorongoro Crater is 2000ft (610m) deep. Approximately 2.5 million years ago, the Ngorongoro crater was a huge volcanic mountain, rivaling Kilimanjaro in size. This changed when the top of the mountain collapsed in on itself, creating the biggest volcanic caldera in the world. The park is teeming with wildlife, with animals such as zebra, buffalo, hyenas, wildebeests and lions thriving in the area and there are approximately 30,000 animals.

Manyara National Park back to Arusha

After breakfast, you will check out from the lodge and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. Lake Manyara National Park is worth a stop in its own right. Its groundwater forests, bush plains, baobab-strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds. Pink flamingos stoop and graze by the thousands, colorful specks against the grey minerals of the lakeshore.

Lake Manyara National Park is well known for the tree-climbing lions, the soda ash lake that attracts thousands and pink flamingos, one of Tanzania’s biggest elephant populations and breathtaking scenery! On our exploration of the park, we will see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, elephants, and with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab-dotted cliffs.
