Day 3

Lake Eyasi

Lake Eyasi

Today is the day to immerse yourself in the rich culture of the Hadzabe and Datoga people at Lake Eyasi.

Lake Eyasi is home to East Africa's last authentic hunter-gatherers, the Hadzabe. They rely on their hunting skills, using bows and arrows to pursue animals like antelopes, gazelles, birds, and mongooses. In addition to hunting, they gather fruit, roots, and honey from the venerable baobab trees. Possessing only what is necessary for survival, such as bows, arrows, and a few cooking pots, they shun material possessions. The arrows used for hunting are expertly crafted by the Datoga community in the area.

The Datoga people, on the other hand, are skilled blacksmiths. They collect scrap metal and adeptly transform it into bracelets, arrowheads, and knives, which they then trade for food collected by the Hadzabe. Following this fascinating cultural experience, you'll spend the night at Fig Tree Lodge.
