Our next stop is Moroto, a small and unassuming town that nonetheless serves as the largest urban outpost in the vast badlands of Karamoja. The town has an attractive setting at the base of Mt Moroto, which rises to 3,084m on the eastern skyline. It will take you about 5 hours so you arrive in time for lunch if you set off from Sipi early. Stay 2 nights at Karatunga Safari Camp.

You will have to drive for about an hour to get to the start. Mountain gorillas are one of the world’s most endangered apes.
