After 2 hours, you'll enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the landscape changes from hilly forests to plains and green grasslands.

The sweeping grasslands gradually fade into the Serengeti. Ndutu is part of the route for the annual migration of over 2 million wildebeest, along with zebras, antelopes, and gazelles.

In the right season (December to April), the game drives offer a view of the plains turning into calving and nursery grounds for the great migration. This season attracts predators preying on vulnerable young wildebeest. Ndutu Lake and Lake Masek, surrounded by the area, provide plenty of wildlife during the dry season. Ndutu is also the home ground for 6 species of big cats.

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

On your safari's final day, you'll start early. After a quick breakfast, around 6:30 a.m., you'll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. It's the world's largest inactive, intact volcanic caldera, with a huge floor spanning about 260 sq km and a depth of over 2,000 feet. During the 5/6-hour game drive on the crater floor, you'll witness a lot of animal activity, so keep that camera ready. Elephants, buffalos, black rhinos, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions are plentiful. After a picnic lunch by the lovely hippo pool, you'll make a steep ascent to exit the crater. This marks the final stretch of your safari, with a 4-hour drive back to Arusha. In the evening, you'll be dropped off at your preferred location in Arusha or transferred to the airport.
