Departing from Moshi, a scenic 1-hour drive takes you through the charming Village of Marangu to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. There, amidst the hustle and bustle of preparations, permits are patiently issued for the upcoming journey. As crews gear up, the trail winds through the stunning rainforest, offering captivating scenery and insights into local flora, fauna, and natural wildlife. After a restful night's sleep and a nourishing breakfast, the trek advances beyond the rainforest, ascending through heathland adorned with giant lobelias and groundsels. The path unfolds amidst open moorlands, where small shrubs dominate the landscape. A pause for lunch at a scenic vantage point offers breathtaking views of Mawenzi. Continuing the ascent, the trail reaches the Horombo Huts in the late afternoon, nestled beneath the awe-inspiring Kibo Summit viewpoint. As temperatures begin to drop, the surroundings transform, setting the stage for an enchanting night on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Kibo hut to Horombo hut to Summit

Ascend from 4695m/15,400ft to the breathtaking 5895m/19,340ft on the Marangu Route, followed by a descent to 3690m/12,100ft. Starting between midnight and 2 a.m., the summit push is mentally and physically demanding, navigating switchbacks through scree and snow toward Gillman’s Point. A brief rest offers a view of a magnificent sunrise, possibly seen from the summit. The final hour to Uhuru Peak involves a snowy ascent, marking the highest point on Kilimanjaro and the African continent. Descend steeply to Mweka Camp, with a lunch stop at Barafu. Gaiters and poles are crucial for the challenging terrain. A well-deserved rest at Mweka Camp concludes this extraordinary journey.

At the gate, a vehicle awaits to transport you back to your hotel in Moshi, approximately a 45-minute drive.
