Day 1
Transfer to Akagera National Park & Boat Trip
Transfer to Akagera National Park & Boat Trip
After breakfast, you’ll travel to Akagera National Park, which was first set up in 1934 to protect the area around the Kagera River. Although the park lost more than half of its land in the late 1990s due to people moving in after the war, it has been recovering well. With strong protection, the return of lions and black rhinos, better camps, and beautiful surroundings, the park is now attracting many visitors.
When you arrive, enjoy an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema. You may see hippos, crocodiles, birds, and other animals near the water. After the boat trip, take a short game drive, then return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Morning Game Drive in Akagera, Transfer to Kigali & End of Trip
Depending on how much time you want to spend watching animals, you can choose how long your game drive will be in Akagera National Park. Start your day early and head out after breakfast. Your experienced driver-guide will take you along different routes, giving you great chances to see the park’s animals.
Watch for large animals like elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, topi, zebras, and impala. Lions and rhinos have been brought back to the park, and while they can be hard to find, you might be lucky. The park has many types of land where animals live and is also a great place for bird lovers, with over 500 kinds of birds.
After the morning game drive, you’ll head back to Kigali, marking the end of your trip.
