Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Early in the morning, your driver-guide will pick you up at your hotel and drive for 2 hours to the gates of Tarangire National Park, where you will do a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. You will enjoy the lunch box at a picnic site and then continue with the game drive.

Tarangire National Park is almost 2,800 sq km and is probably best known for its vast numbers of elephants and baobab trees. The park's name comes from the Tarangire River which crosses through the park. Tarangire is especially spectacular during the Dry season (June – November) as wildlife concentrations rival the Serengeti's. Enormous populations of elephants and other animals are drawn to the Tarangire River as their only water source. With its varied habitats and permanent water in the Tarangire River, the park is home to over 2,000 elephants and 500 bird species.

Later in the afternoon, you will exit the park and drive to Marera Valley Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, we pick you up from the lodge, drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, and descend into the crater with picnic lunch boxes for a game drive. Often called the Eighth Natural Wonder of the World, the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater in the world.

The Ngorongoro volcano erupted about 2 million years ago, and its walls collapsed. The volcano floor sank to create a natural enclosure with 600m-tall walls. Now over 19km wide, the Ngorongoro Crater is filled with significant areas of acacia forest, hippo-filled swamps, and open grasslands. These habitats contain over 30,000 animals, including elephants, warthogs, flamingos, magnificent birdlife, the rare black rhinoceros, and all predatory cats. The Maasai can also be seen grazing their cattle alongside the buffalo and wildebeest. Afterward, you will drive back to Arusha.
