Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu

Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu

After breakfast, we hit the road to experience the wonderful Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Africa. More precisely termed - a caldera - this is the best place for game viewing in all of Tanzania. An enclosed ecosystem, the caldera is home to some 25,000 large mammals.

Descending down the bumpy, winding track toward the caldera floor, we note our passage through several different climactic zones until, 600m down, we roam out onto the broad expanse. We can expect to see buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, reedbuck, and Thomson's gazelle. We may spot our predator friends like lion and cheetah lounging in the grass or in action, and some of the more than 500 bird species that inhabit this area. With a little bit of luck, we might catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass.

After our extensive game drive within the crater, we return to our lodge for dinner and overnight.

Lake Eyasi visit to the Hadzabe and Datoga

After breakfast at your lodge in Karatu, you will drive straight to Lake Eyasi and visit the Hadzabe and Datoga. Lake Eyasi is surrounded by the homeland of the Hadza and Datoga, both of which have ancient histories and unique cultures. The Hadza people, in particular, are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa, relying on traditional methods of subsistence.
Hunter-Gatherer Lifestyle: The Hadza people have inhabited the region for thousands of years and continue to practice their traditional lifestyle of hunting and gathering. They provide a fascinating glimpse into the human past, as their way of life remains largely unchanged in the face of modernization.
After lunch and further exploration, you will drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

After breakfast, we hit the road to Lake Manyara National Park. Manyara, known for its namesake lake which covers some 70 percent of the park area, is famed for its tree-climbing lions. Our game drive takes us to the lakeshore where, whilst viewing the thousands of feeding flamingos, we can hope to spot monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalos, elephants, and with some luck, lions lounging in the trees.

The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab-dotted cliffs. Animals gather at the river and giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest are often seen. The park is also home to buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest, all of whom are closely attended by a range of predators like Simba the lion king and his cousin, the leopard.

After lunch and extensive game drive, we head back to Arusha.
