As Tanzania's largest national park, the Serengeti lures in thousands of visitors each year, especially during the peak wildlife-viewing season from December to June. The wet season spans from March to May, while the coldest period stretches from June to October.

A standout feature of the park is the annual migration of millions of zebra and wildebeest, typically occurring in May or early June. This natural spectacle ranks among the most awe-inspiring events globally, attracting numerous tourists eager to witness it firsthand. Rise before dawn to catch the magic of sunrise over the endless plains, a perfect time for predators on the move and grazers beginning their day. After an early breakfast or packed picnic, set off on an extended game drive that allows you to venture farther from the central routes and into more remote corners of the Serengeti.

Your guide will follow fresh tracks and share insights about the ecosystem, helping you spot resident big cats such as lions and cheetahs as well as large herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope. With luck, you might witness a dramatic hunt or observe hippos and crocodiles along the riverbanks.

Pause midday for a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint or near a hippo pool, then continue exploring until late afternoon when the golden light bathes the savannah. Another day to enjoy a glimpse of wildlife along the way as you travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Pause at a scenic lookout on the crater rim to take in the breathtaking view of this vast, bowl-shaped caldera stretching below you.

After descending the steep forested walls, you’ll enter a unique ecosystem that supports one of the densest populations of wildlife in Africa. Spend the day on game drives across the crater floor, where grassy plains, acacia woodland and soda lakes attract a rich variety of animals. Watch for black rhino grazing in the open, large prides of lion lounging in the sun, and abundant elephants, buffalo and hippos.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site near the hippo pool, then continue exploring the wetlands and savannah before ascending back to the rim in the late afternoon. Overnight at a lodge or tented camp on or near the crater rim, where cool highland breezes and sweeping views make for an unforgettable evening.
