Day 1

Coastal Region to Tsavo East National Park

Coastal Region to Tsavo East National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up from your beach hotel in Mombasa, Diani, Watamu, or Malindi. You’ll journey inland through local villages and open savannahs, entering Tsavo East National Park via Bachuma Gate or Sala Gate depending on your location.

Once inside the park, your first game drive begins immediately. Tsavo East is renowned for its vast landscapes, red-soil terrain, and red-dust-coated elephants, along with a wide variety of other wildlife such as lions, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes. You'll also pass the Aruba Dam, a popular wildlife viewing spot, and Mudanda Rock, which offers panoramic views over a natural water catchment.

You’ll arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for lunch and some rest. Later in the afternoon, head out on another game drive, catching the golden evening light that brings the bush alive. Return to your lodge at sunset for dinner and overnight.

Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park

After an early breakfast, check out and enjoy a final morning game drive as you exit the park. You’ll drive westward, crossing the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway to enter Tsavo West National Park, which offers a striking contrast in scenery, lush hills, lava flows, and rugged landscapes.
Game viewing continues as you make your way to your lodge or camp, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, set out to explore some of the park’s natural highlights, including a visit to Mzima Springs. Here, fresh spring water bubbles up from underground aquifers, forming clear pools that support hippos, crocodiles, and fish. An underwater observation chamber gives you a unique view of the aquatic life.
You’ll also explore the Shetani Lava Flow, a vast black lava field formed by volcanic eruptions centuries ago. Wildlife sightings may include elephants, leopards, bushbucks, and a wide variety of birds.
Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
