Day 2
Arusha- Umbwe Gate - Umbwe Camp

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Umbwe Gate for registration. Your trek begins through dense rainforest, where towering trees, thick undergrowth, and the sounds of wildlife surround you. The Umbwe Route is the steepest on Kilimanjaro, offering a challenging but rewarding start. The narrow trail climbs continuously, giving a true sense of adventure and isolation. As you ascend, you may spot colobus monkeys and unique plant species. By late afternoon, arrive at Umbwe Camp, set in the forest, where you can rest and enjoy your first night on the mountain.

Day 3

Today the trail climbs out of the rainforest into moorland terrain, where vegetation becomes sparse and landscapes more dramatic. You will hike along ridges with impressive views of valleys below and the mountain above. The air becomes cooler as you gain altitude. The route joins the Machame trail before reaching Barranco Camp, one of the most scenic camps on the mountain. Surrounded by giant groundsels and senecios, the camp sits beneath the towering Barranco Wall. This day is important for acclimatization as your body adjusts to the increasing altitude.

Day 4

Begin the day with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall, a non-technical scramble that offers incredible views and a sense of achievement. Once at the top, the trail undulates through alpine desert terrain with sweeping vistas of glaciers and valleys. Continue trekking toward Karanga Camp, a key acclimatization stop. The shorter hiking day allows your body to adapt while conserving energy for the summit push ahead. The landscape becomes more rugged and dry, highlighting the mountain’s unique ecological zones.

Day 5
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, continue your ascent toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before your summit attempt. The terrain is rocky and exposed, with little vegetation as you enter the alpine desert zone. Upon arrival, enjoy an early meal and rest, as preparation for the summit climb begins. Your guide will brief you on the midnight ascent and ensure you are mentally and physically ready. Spend the afternoon relaxing and hydrating while taking in views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Around midnight, begin your summit attempt toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Trek slowly under the stars, passing Stella Point before reaching the summit at sunrise. Standing at Uhuru Peak is a truly unforgettable achievement. After celebrating and taking photos, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp. The descent is long but rewarding as oxygen levels increase and the landscape changes. Enjoy a well-earned dinner and rest after this challenging day.

You will then be transferred back to Arusha. Upon arrival, you can relax at your hotel or continue with onward travel plans. This marks the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure, filled with unforgettable memories and a great sense of accomplishment.
