Transfer to Akagera National Park & Boat Cruise

After breakfast, you’ll travel to Akagera National Park, which was first created in 1934 to protect the area around the Kagera River. In the late 1990s, more than half of the park was resettled due to the arrival of refugees, but the park has been recovering well. With strong protection, the return of lions and black rhinos, better camps, and natural scenery, more visitors are now coming to the park.

When you arrive, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Ihema. You might see hippos, crocodiles, birds, and other animals along the riverbank. After the boat trip, go to your lodge for dinner and spend the night there.

Full Day Game Drive in Akagera

Depending on how much time you want to spend watching animals, you can choose how long your game drive will be in Akagera National Park. Start your day early and go for a game drive after breakfast. Your experienced driver-guide will take you through different routes, giving you a good chance to see the park’s animals.

Watch for large animals like elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, topi, zebras, and impala. Lions and rhinos have been brought back to the park, and while they can be hard to spot, you might be lucky. The park has many types of land where animals live and is also a great place for bird lovers, with over 500 bird species.

You will enjoy both morning and evening game drives, with a break for lunch at your lodge.
