Day 2
Transfer to Nyungwe National Park & Canopy walk

After an early breakfast, depart Kigali and journey to Nyungwe National Park, one of Africa's oldest montane rainforests and a biodiversity hotspot. The drive covers approximately 225 km and takes 5–6 hours, passing through Rwanda's picturesque rolling hills, tea plantations, and rural communities. A lunch stop will be made en route before continuing to the park.
Upon arrival, head to the Nyungwe Canopy Walk, an exhilarating suspended bridge stretching 160 metres and standing about 70 metres above the forest floor. Enjoy spectacular views of the rainforest canopy while keeping an eye out for monkeys, colourful birds, and other wildlife. After the activity, transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, head into Nyungwe National Park for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience. Accompanied by experienced park guides, venture into the ancient rainforest in search of one of our closest primate relatives. As you trek through the forest, you may also encounter other primates such as colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and a variety of bird species.
After the trek, depart Nyungwe and continue to the beautiful shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa's Great Lakes. The scenic drive takes approximately 3–4 hours, offering stunning views of Rwanda's lush landscapes, hills, and local communities along the way. Upon arrival at Lake Kivu, check in at your hotel and relax while enjoying the peaceful lakeside surroundings.

After a relaxed breakfast overlooking the beautiful waters of Lake Kivu, you may enjoy an optional sunrise boat cruise (at an additional cost), offering a peaceful experience with stunning views of the lake, surrounding hills, islands, and local fishing activities.
After breakfast, depart for Volcanoes National Park, home to Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas and the magnificent Virunga volcanic mountains. The scenic drive takes approximately 3–4 hours, passing through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside, terraced hillsides, and vibrant local communities.
Upon arrival, check in at the lodge and later in the evening, enjoy a visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village (now known as the Gorilla Guardians Village), where you will experience Rwanda’s rich traditions and culture. Enjoy traditional performances, learn about local customs, and interact with community members as they share stories of Rwanda’s heritage. Return for dinner and overnight stay.

This day promises to be one of the most memorable of your Best of Rwanda Budget Safari. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking. In small groups, you will set off into the dense forest with experienced guides to track a gorilla family. The trek can be challenging, with steep and muddy paths, but the reward is well worth the effort.
Upon finding the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to spend an hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Watch as they play, feed, and interact as you gain insight into their daily lives. After this unforgettable encounter, return to the lodge for lunch and then go on an excursion to explore the beautiful twin lakes in the region (Lake Bulera & Ruhondo).

After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will proceed to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey trekking experience. The trek takes you through lush forests and scenic landscapes, accompanied by experienced tour guides, who will share insights about the golden monkeys and the park’s rich ecosystem.
Once you locate the golden monkeys, you will spend up to one hour observing them in their natural habitat. Unlike gorillas, golden monkeys are playful and energetic, often darting through the trees and engaging in lively, hide-and-seek-like behavior, so you may need to follow them around.
After the trek, you will return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch. In the early afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Kigali, followed by a transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure.
