After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, meet your guide for a briefing before visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Continue with a scenic drive of approximately 2.5 hours northwest through Rwanda’s rolling hills and vibrant countryside to Volcanoes National Park. After checking into your lodge, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about gorilla conservation and Dian Fossey’s legacy. Later, experience Rwandan culture at Gorilla Guardians Village through traditional demonstrations and local cultural experiences. Overnight: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or similar.

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing. Enter the dense montane forest accompanied by experienced trackers and park rangers as you search for a habituated gorilla family. The trek can take several hours depending on the location and movements of the gorillas. Once the family is located, spend up to one unforgettable hour observing their behavior as they feed, groom, play and interact. Lake Bunyonyi is one of southwestern Uganda’s most scenic destinations, surrounded by rolling hills and dotted with numerous small islands. After breakfast, depart Lake Bunyonyi and travel toward Kalinzu Forest Reserve, a lush tropical forest renowned for its biodiversity and chimpanzee population. Upon arrival, embark on a guided chimpanzee tracking experience through the forest, searching for chimpanzee communities moving through the treetops and forest floor. You may also encounter other primates, birds and butterflies along the forest trails. After an early breakfast, depart Mbarara at approximately 06:00 AM and drive towards the Mutukula border between Uganda and Tanzania. Complete immigration and customs formalities before continuing to Bukoba on the Tanzanian side of Lake Victoria. From Bukoba, take a domestic flight to Mwanza. Upon arrival, meet your representative and transfer to your lakefront resort. Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying views of Lake Victoria, with an opportunity to experience a beautiful African sunset. Overnight: Malaika Beach Resort or similar.

Depending on the season and current herd movements, the route may approach Serengeti through the western or northern areas before continuing toward Central Serengeti.
