Research Base & Activities

The day-by-day itinerary for this expedition will be structured around your required dates. You will be met at Fascene Airport on the island of Nosy Be and be transported by road to the beachfront base camp just off the northwest coast of Madagascar.

Your accommodation consists of dormitory-style rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Solar power is used, and conditions are basic but comfortable, with lots of spaces to relax after a busy day. Cooking and tidying duties are shared on a rotational basis among staff and participants. Evenings include debriefs on the day’s activities, enjoying a meal together, and optional social activities and games.

Fieldwork includes trekking through the Lokobe National Park, looking for signs of critically endangered lemurs and the great variety of bird, reptile, amphibian, and butterfly species. Forest surveys are conducted in the morning or at night. There will be many priceless photo opportunities during the course of your stay.

Depart for Fascene Airport

After breakfast on your final day, you’ll depart from base camp at 10:00 am for the 25-minute drive to Fascene Airport in Nosy Be.
