Day 2
Nairobi, Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya
Nairobi has some creditable sightseeing destinations and most of these are located close to your accommodation. Here you will find the elephant orphanage run by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Giraffe Centre run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, Karen Blixen Museum celebrating the life of the colonial-era, Danish writer who lived here, and a number of interesting crafts shops and workshops. Located between these attractions and the airport is Nairobi National Park, which is home to more than 80 species of large mammals - including the so-called Big Five with the exception of elephants - and offers a surprisingly authentic if slightly surreal safari experience almost within earshot of downtown Nairobi’s traffic.
Your time in Nairobi is totally flexible - we take you wherever you want to go. Nicholas accompanies you for the day and you don’t have to decide on what you want to do/see until you arrive. All transport and entrance fees are included in the cost of your journey.

Day 3-5
Samburu, Kenya
Samburu, Kenya
Nicholas now transfers you to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport for the flight to the Kalama Conservancy wilderness area in Northern Kenya’s Samburu region. You are greeted by your lodge guide and immediately embark on a game drive on the way to your lodge. Over this afternoon and the following two days, enjoy your choice of bush walks and day and evening game drives as well as village visits (additional cost) and bush picnics.
We recommend a visit to Samburu because this is the key area for seeing Kenya’s northern varieties of plains wildlife, some of which you won’t see elsewhere. This includes the “Samburu Special Five” - the strikingly large, ‘pin-striped’ Grevy’s zebra; the stretch-necked gerenuk antelope (often seen on its hind legs, browsing out of the reach of its short-necked relatives); the smartly fawn-coloured Beisa oryx; the Somali ostrich (a distinct species from the common ostrich found elsewhere) and the seemingly designer-coated reticulated giraffe.
- Main Destination:
- Samburu National Reserve
- Accommodation:
- Saruni Samburu Camp

Day 6-7
Laikipia, Kenya
Laikipia, Kenya
You are now met by our driver (usually Fred or Gideon) and enjoy a morning’s drive south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, arriving in time for lunch. Your time here includes game drives and bush walks that can be accompanied by bush meals and sundowner drinks. One of your game drives will include a visit to view the world’s last two remaining northern white rhinos along with a guided back-of-house tour of Jane Goodall’s Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
The high plains of Laikipia are one of Kenya’s best safari regions. Formerly a patchwork of huge ranches and still an important livestock district, Laikipia is now a conglomeration of private conservancies where some of Kenya’s most encouraging conservation success stories are unfolding. The environment here is managed to protect the wildlife, to promote a personal and small-scale approach to adventurous and often luxurious safari tourism, and to generate an income for the local Samburu and Masai communities.
- Main Destination:
- Laikipia Plateau
- Accommodation:
- Ol Pejeta Safari Cottages

Day 8
Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya
Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya
You are reunited with our guide, who now transfers you into the Rift Valley Lakes region. You arrive around midday at Lake Nakuru National Park and your lodge with its sweeping views of the lake down below. After lunch, our guide provides you with an afternoon game drive.
Lake Nakuru lies on the southern fringes of Kenya’s third largest town, Nakuru and is one of Kenya’s classic national parks. What makes Lake Nakuru so special is also the main reason it attracts such large numbers of visitors: good populations of large mammals in a contained area where sightings are as reliable as you could hope for anywhere is sub-Saharan Africa.
- Main Destination:
- Lake Nakuru National Park
- Accommodation:
- The Cliff Camp

Day 9-11
Masai Mara, Kenya
Masai Mara, Kenya
An early morning boat safari on the lake offers a tranquil beginning to another day of safari. Our guide then transfers you to Kenya’s premier wildlife destination, the Masai Mara. The drive passes through the tribal homelands of the Masai before arriving at the entrance to the reserve, from where you game drive to your camp and bid farewell to your guide. You stay here for three nights and your safari experiences include game drives and walking safaris. Cultural visits to the nearby Masai village can also be arranged, as can a sunrise balloon safari (Additional cost).
