Day 3

Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, you arrive at the Rushaga trailhead by 7:30 AM for a mandatory pre-trek briefing led by park rangers. Here, you’re assigned to a gorilla family and given safety guidelines, trekking etiquette, and insights into gorilla behavior, you set off into the dense jungle. The trek duration varies anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. You’re allowed one magical hour to observe, photograph (without flash), and absorb the intimacy of this encounter. It’s humbling, emotional, and unforgettable.

After the trek, you return to the trailhead for your gorilla trekking certificate, a proud memento of your achievement. Back at the lodge for lunch, dinner and overnight.

Your day begins at dawn with breakfast before setting out on a morning game drive through the Kasenyi Plains, one of Queen Elizabeth’s most wildlife-rich areas. Here, lion prides stalk Uganda kobs grazing in the dew-covered grasslands, while views of Lake George and crater lakes add to the scenery.

After lunch, head to the Mweya jetty for a two-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a biodiverse waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward. The cruise brings you close to hippos, elephants, crocodiles, and an impressive array of birdlife, including pelicans and the rare shoebill stork.
